Kenn,
What are you using for an interface? I have a MOTU Track 16 with a Focusrite Octo Dynamic connected via ADAT. I simply select the output for track in Sonar I want to send to Mixbus. In MB I select the input and yer off. I do physically patch the I/O via a patchbay. I don't think Jack is full featured for Windows. I might be wrong about that but I think it's a Mac thingy.

I'm using the Cakewalk V-Studio 100 as my one and only interface.  It's my understanding that with version 2.5 of Mixbus they added Windows Jack support..but maybe I was given incorrect information.

If I can't get it routed via software, I guess I'll just have to do exports and imports.  If anyone else has managed to patch SONAR to Mixbus with either Jack or V.A.S. (http://www.virtualaudiostream.com/) I'd love to hear about your experience/setup.

Harrison Mixbus is Ardour + inline Plugs. Ardour is free and something I have used for more than a 2 years?

I know that everyone here is in it for the plugins, but I thought I should point out that this is mostly Ardour. With Ardour on Windows you could use all your Sonar Plugins.

So this means that if you want to see how a different daw impacts your workflow and creativity, you don't have to pay the $20 USD. The $20 is for the EQs and Compressor. And, btw, there are EQs and Compressors free with Ardour. A number of interesting ones.

Mixbus is BUILT on top of Ardour, because Ardour is open source...but it's NOT Ardour, and you're not paying for the Plugins...it has a different working, howbeit somewhat similar.

Mixbus has a far different sound.  It has the "Harrison" sound...and the Mixer and EQ's on the Channels are
different, as well as including the Tape Saturation and Limiter on the Master Channel.

So using Ardour would not be the same...

Also, Ardour does not run on Windows....it refers you to Mixbus for Windows...

Thanks, Cclarry. i wasn't meaning to diss MixBus. I was saying that if you want to play with a very similar DAW, Adour3 is freely available. I didn't realize it can't be run on Windows. I use it on Linux. When I use Windows, I use Sonar.

I like having a handy Linux tool for recording.

I wonder if maybe I'm trying to justify not spending the $20 for MixBus.

All good G....I knew what you were getting at...and I'm hoping that
Mixbus V3 gets the changes that Ardour did...64 bit and MIDI....
I'd be a happy camper...LOL

I gotta say, I was very dubious with all the usual, it has this "sound," lamentations that were flying about the web.

Though after figuring, eh it's 20 bucks and buying the thing?!! At first I thought I was suffering from cockstruckdom. Like the first go, always seems exciting because you haven't been there before and your senses are primed to overload, no matter what. But after giving it a few spins over the last two days? I'm finding that the reviews saying it's easy to find a good sound quickly, weren't lying!

Comparing this to other programs, in all honestly isn't a huge difference. But it's definitely there in terms of thickness and clarity. The biggest point isn't really the final sound, but how quickly you arrive at that point, that kind of makes the difference.

Ultimately for 20 bucks? I feel like I ripped them off... And I feel that, that is the true sign that you've made a good purchase!!!

PS: I have had the joy (???) of utilising the destructive editing feature and was hit by a tsunami of nightmares from my 16 track Tascam digital recording days! Dear god I just want to polish a turd! Why won't you let me polish my faeces!!!

Without midi - mixbus is not a complete daw for everyday / everything. However... I love this tool. May be the best $20 you'll ever spend on music gear.

To some of the posters asking about plugins. VST32 works fine. What I found is for mixing and or in-house limited by me mastering - mixbus has most of what I need without using a lot of 3rd party vst's. The 3 option compressor offers a Leveler which is similar in sound/control of the ca2a. The limiter/tape module and eq are all very good! The sound is just plain ole, not guessing, good!!! If you get this software, take some time and watch a few videos and read at minimum sections of the manual that may apply for your understanding to at least use the software for mixing. I plan to keep diving deeper in MB and learning to be efficient with track/clip editing. But I have Sonar for the speed of getting editing done fast.

Always been an admirer of Cake's products and now I can say I'm also an admirer of HMB!! My suggestion is to grab it while it's so cheap and then once again I'll type it... take some time to learn to properly use this fine tool. It's worth the effort.
