It seems a little short

Sorry....

I might buy this actually. I was a big fan of Dio back in the day, saw them at Newcastle City Hall in 1988 or so. The highlight of the gig was during Craig Goldy's solo when a giant mechanical spider was lowered from the ceiling and he zapped it to death with a laser which came from the headstock of his guitar.

I also attribute some of my tinnitus to that gig. I was right in front of the speakers. Couldn't hear properly for a couple of days afterwards.

It will most certainly find its way into my record collection. I was a fan of the early albums, up until the Intermission EP.

Sacred Heart didn't age too well imho, but the first two albums are still favorites of mine (though an issue with the high frequencies in the ride cymbal prevents me from enjoying some of the songs - Caught In The Middle being one of the worst offenders).

Maybe I should do my own remaster...

Just listened to that...ouch...it's like the aural equivalent of staring at a welding torch.

Really? Oh I do. It's burned into my brain. In fact I've managed to find the whole thing on YouTube, exactly as I remember it (26 years ago!). Watch from about 3:20....

Not what I meant.  My little trivia:  I grew up a couple of streets over from Craig in San Diego and had the chance to play with him in a band for a few weeks late in '84.  I bought my first real guitar from him (my best friend was getting lessons from him then passing some of those off to me - another good friend was his drummer).  Back then, he didn't have a laser.

Then how in the hell did he deal with those mechanical spiders? Perhaps he carried a giant net around with him.

Just watched the video - the laser was pretty dang cool!  Argon at that (I used to have lasers when I did lighting for some of the underground parties in L.A. - I still have a couple in storage actually...).

Personally, I prefer his melodic guitar work over pure wanking.  He could easily keep up with Eddie and Randy on their stuff, but his main influence was Blackmore.  The only reason I even got the chance to work with him was because he wanted someone without any ambition to take a lead or be in the spotlight.  I would hide way back to his right near my "rented" Marshall stack just playing my backing chords.  Couldn't have been happier actually!
