I have an older cousin who served in that war. I remember being at my aunts house when they would show the days casualty count on the nightly news. When that part of the newscast came on, it got very quiet. For those of you too young to remember, they actually did that. Every night, it would be a few hundred to a thousand or so, and then the war total. The actual total was close to 60000 when the war was over. 
 
He made it home safe, and virtually unscathed. He'll tell stories now if asked. I look at 18 year olds now, and they seem like such children. Hard to believe what they are capable of.
