  • Loop Loft MIDI Loops way too long (and mostly empty)

So, I bought the Odd Meters MIDI drum library from The Loop Loft. - http://www.thelooploft.com/collections/midi-loops/products/odd-meter-drums-midi-drum-loops

Every loop either auditions or drag and drops as a 100 measure loop in all my Toontrack Drum VST's - EZPlayer, EZDrummer2 and Superior Drummer2. The MIDI data is only in the first 2, 4, 8 or 16 measures, the rest is blank and of course, plays out, rendering the library unusable for my method of building drum tracks in the drum VST's.

The same library MIDI loops drop in at the correct length into a Sonar X3 MIDI track.

All my other 3rd party drum loops behave perfectly well, Groove Monkey, Oddgrooves etc.

Any ideas as to why this should be happening and a possible fix.

Loop Loft have been quick to reply, but no help, simply stating my VST's should be capable of accepting drum MIDI in General MIDI format, which leaves me nowhere. In fact they effectively gave up on me and I got notification of a refund this morning (I was polite, and asked for one, but only if they couldn't suggest a fix at the third time of emailing their support) Its hard to believe that their loops wont behave properly in Toontrack without them knowing about it ! So I can reasonably assume that they do...puzzling to say the least...

The only advice that Zane from The Loop Loft can offer me is 'Our MIDI loops are all in General MIDI format, which might be the root of the issue. Can you change preferences in EZ Drummer for it to read MIDI files in General MIDI (GM) format? This should solve the issue.'

The Toontrack Forum is useless right now, the new website currently has no link to the forum history and their full effort right now is on the launch of EZDrummer 2 this week.

I figure if I am going to get to the bottom of this it is going to be here. I cant believe that Loop Loft libraries will simply not play with Toontrack - any suggestions?

Cheers

Anyone got anything to chime in on on this? I looked at it again last night and still drew a blank...

Have you taken a look at the MIDI data via the Event View? Maybe there is a MIDI event, perhaps a silent CC event, out there at the end that makes it look exceptionally long to SONAR. If you were able to identify something like that, it could give the vendor the information they need to fix it. It could turn out to be a problem with the way they're exporting the MIDI files, or with the software they're using.

If it was me that had paid for this library I'd be tempted to go through the files and trim and re-save them. It would be time-consuming, but you'd at least get to use something you've paid for.

Bit,

Many thanks for the reply. What actually happens is that the MIDI drum loops are the CORRECT size when I drop them into a Sonar X3 MIDI track, ie 2, 4 or 8 measures (albeit in odd time sigs) and are ALL exactly 100 measures, regardless of whether the actual drum MIDI data is only in the first 2, 4 or 8 measures, when I drop them into any of Toontrack EZPlayer, EZDrummer 2, or Superior Drummer 2. So very odd, as all my other libraries behave exactly as they should in both Toontrack and Sonar MIDI lanes.

Good suggestion to look at the Event viewer, although of course in Sonar I will be looking at the correct length clip, I have never used event viewer before so not exactly sure what I am looking for, but I will have a go. Unfortunately, there is no event viewer capability in the Toontrack drum VST's, and it is there that the unexpected behaviour is taking place.

Yes, I am not at my DAW now, but I think I could trim and save the individual clips. Thats a lot of work for something that should simply work out of the box, on very standard, up to date drum VST software. It really is a mystery.

Thanks Bit, you have at least given me something to go and take a look at.

Just wanted to take time for a big shout out to Rail at Platinum Samples, who overnight, ran this MIDI library through his utility to trim the length. That was a great gesture and really appreciated...What a great community we have here, and Platinum Samples showing their true class !

Yes we do have a great community here. And I have dealt with Platinum Samples before and I can say they are the real deal. A class A operation.

+1 to that Grem,

I am already looking at their MIDI libraries and deciding which one (s) to spring for...

+ 1 for Platinum Samples - I have quite a few of their products - all excellent and an excellent company to deal with.
The Steve Ferrone Midi packs are my favorite midi drums packs from any manufacturer.
