Is it a fraud for a rusty-voiced has been to record a new version of an old hit and sell it as a recording of his performance of said hit without specifically saying  on the label that it is not a re-print of the original? Stay tuned.
 
 

I don't want to revisit any of the hits I had back in the 80's and 90's.  Some of them were quite painful!  

I took a few good hits in the 90's. 

I did buy a few such CDs in the 80's.
First I thought it's my imagination that makes the songs sound weird. It's good they make some noise about it, finally.

Are the new versions necessarily inferior?  The technology is likely to be better.  I may not fell cheated, but I would like to know so I'm able to make an informed choice.  
 
Squeeze have a CD where they did exactly that.  It's called Spot The Difference.   They went to great lengths to re-record their songs as close to the originals as possible.  The recordings seem to have less noise than the originals.  
 

I wonder if the lawyers behind this lawsuit aren't being paid under the table by record companies. Most of these re-recordings are done for one purpose: to cut record companies out of the royalties. It's also interesting that most of them are being recorded in the musicians' own home studios.

My view is that if you're filing lawsuits because of a CD you bought, you have way too much time on your hands. I seem to remember buying a Kid Creole and the Coconuts greatest hits CD sometime in the 90's which turned out to be bad live recordings of the songs. I just put it down to experience. 

Like those old K-Tel record albums by the "original artists"
 
when you received them and played them they sounded NOTHING like the originals.
 
You then looked st the fine print and noticed the songs were recorded by a group of studio musicians who called themselves.....
