You are a good man. What a loss. I am sorry, horses can be so special. I believe horses and other animals can see into the hidden, spiritual realm at times. I think that is the case in a situation like this. The Lord cares for all His creatures.
Did you know that when they had the big tsunami a few years ago in Indonesia that wiped out everything. I heard that before the water got there all the animals headed up to high ground, they stopped just above where the water reached. Dogs seem to know when an earthquake is coming. This horse you loved was likely comforting you because it knew what was happening and knew that everything was going to be OK... or more likely you comforted one another. Yeah... I believe that. Horses are REALLY smart and loyal.
Another horse story, Confederate general Bedford Forrest's horse hated Yankees. After the war between the states there is a story (in his biography) of his horse seeing a man in a blue uniform down the street... the horse charged the man... it probably wasn't funny at the time but I cannot help but chuckle now...
If you had a bond with a horse, you had a bond and you now have a loss. Pass it on, it is a fitting way to pay tribute to your loyal friend. Be a loyal friend to another.
Thinking of you.

Very sorry to hear that Kenny. It's an amazing thing, the bond between a person and an animal. I feel your pain, we lost our oldest pony 'Peanuts' a couple of weeks ago. He was 38 years old though, and the time had come. I hope it gets easier for you, cherish the memories.

Thank you James .
Yes it is true ..it is an amazing thing the bond between a person and an animal .
I feel that on a core level of being that it is one of life's greatest gifts .
I'm sorry to hear about you losing Peanuts …38 years old is very good for a horse….
Erica was only 15 years old and her grandfather also passed away at the age of 15 ...
I can see we are both going through the same type of loss and I hope it gets easier for you ...
my dog Duke has been getting a lot of extra attention and hugs from me over here …he is helping me pull through

all the best

Man, I feel for you Kenny.
Suffering the loss of a loved one is the tuffest part of living.
Sorry to hear about Peanuts too James.

Sure good to know they were loved though.
It's hard to see so many animals that don't get that.

Thank you spacey,
Yes, suffering the loss of a loved one is pretty tough … I wish I had answers man...
I lost my younger brother the day Whitney died and Erica a few days ago
in both losses I have been left with the felling of not having gotten the opportunities to have done more things together …that feeling  must be a layer of grief  ...

thanks for the support ,

Kenny

Aw sorry about that, horses are indeed majestic creatures.

Hi sharke,
Yes , horses are indeed majestic creatures ….
some people have said that a man needs to fall apart into little pieces so he can be put back together correctly
it has been my personal experience to know that all the things in this world couldn't accomplish this goal including music in my life
for me it is true that my time spent with Erica , Peanut , Shiloh and Zues has brought about a great amount of healing in my life ….
thank you ,

I just read this and was very sad. My friends that raise horses were devastated over the weekend when their favorite mare died suddenly. They couldn't talk to anyone for days and are terribly upset, so I have some idea of your pain Kenny. I don't get horses, never have, but those that bond with them develop lifelong ties. I'm really sorry for your loss.

What a beautiful narration of such a tender moment.

As heartwarmingly 'real' as it is sorrowful.

Let them tears flow old fella and don't stifle a single one, each one counts for something.

I found an old peom I wrote once about a local 'forest', basically the actual place the Winnie the Pooh stories originated from.  It's more of a heath than a forest, hence 'Erica' or heather, and every few season parts of it catch fire only to renew the following season.   Reading your post reminded me of being a young lad not being able to get my head round it all very well.

Erica now covers much of the ground,
Where back awhile only burnt sand, ash and stones would be found.
Meadows like pools in the places she surrounds.
And in her strong roots small creatures scurry around.

It seems so cruel now to think of you charred the same,
as once was that black and bleak plain.
But thinking on that seemingly dark place again,
is this not from where we as children once came?

Thank you for sharing and God bless you Kenny,

With much love and in fellowship!

Jon

Wookiee
Always hard to lose a friend even harder when that friendship comes without questions.

My best to you both in your loss.

Hi Wookiee , i didn't mean to leave you hanging ,
it has been tough for me to have to process this whole thing on an emotional level …..
yes, friendship that comes without questions has been very rare in my life ….your right , that's what makes this so hard to process ..
I'm starting to feel better a little bit here and there ...
thanks

Kenny, If I'm not mistaken, you had a video of you singing the blues to Erika.
If so, I'd love to see it again. If I'm mistaken, I apologize.
Sorry for your loss.
