Lots of talk today about being able to trace matter back to the 'Big Bang' which gave birth to the Universe.

No talk of the obviously very naughty boy that let that one off, nor even perhaps of an even bigger boy that made him do it.

And they have the cheek to laugh at 'ridiculous' creationists yet to my mind what is claiming everything suddenly appeared out of nowhere if not exactly the same thing?

It just goes to show that none of us 'know' jack really.

I'm just glad that Santa exists as he's bringing me 5 grands worth of audio gear this year and it's being delivered by unicorns provided...

A/ I truly believe it will happen and make it manifest in my reality.

or

B/ The fallout from the Big Bang means that will just fall in my lap as that is it's current trajectory.

or

C/ It won't happen at all.

So thanks to the prophets, seers and men of science I can be absolutely sure of one of these three outcomes.

See?  Knowledge is power ain't it?

I don't believe in Santa Clause--the Easter Bunny told me not to.

That's a pretty good slogan: "The universe...an older boy made me do it."

Yessir, much to my chagrin, that there could catch on.

PS: do you do (very) small runs Bapsi??? I see dollar signs...not dead people.

Jonbouy to my mind what is claiming everything suddenly appeared out of nowhere if not exactly the same thing?

<Pedantic>
No one claims everything suddenly appeared out of nowhere (well, not really nowhere, but...). It is not known what happened before the Big Bang because there is currently no evidence from beforehand available to us.

Infinite regressions don't get anyone anywhere...and are tedious at best. Like my ol pal Drew alludes, we must go where (and as far) as the evidence takes us.

Unfortunately the discipline of science leads to some conclusions that do not fit our prejudices. I, for one am so used to time that it seems not to make any sense that it has not existed infinitely into the past of my universe. But I have no doubt that there is good evidence to support a model that forces the conclusion that it has not.

As for not really knowing anything...well clearly that is the case.

I like the theory that for every black hole on the opposite side is a big bang and another universe.

Of course, since all of you are actually figments of my overactive imagination, I guess it doesn't matter what theories I like.

Figment I may be...but I still trouble you in your dreams. Bawahaaaaaaaa!

To paraphrase my good friend CraigB ITIHRN..

I'm going to go with 'no'.

Physics has just now come to describe with complex equations and all it's mechanism the exact same 'is ness' arising from the 'is notness' that so-called seers of centuries past have been flagging up.

I'm not talking about the perils of being locked in by the constructs of particular doctrines that have come and gone over the millenia, I'm talking about the simple ability to see how stuff really works and appreciate how amazing the whole shooting match is.

Nobody needs a degree in astrophysics to see that a simple snowflake just rocks completely out loud.
