  • Popular Artists or Bands you never really 'got'? (p.5)

OK...since by your own admission some of you have dissed some of the most revered names in rock (believe me I care not) how's about telling us who you do like. Or should I start another thread?

Just curious.

Go on then 'OlPal. You know you want to.

Ol pal, that should be re-worded.  Bands that you like (that you still don't get).

Bordering on the shameful pleasures list... I like Pink, but I'd never buy any albums. I don't "get" that style of dancy girly pop, but having seen her live act on TV (proper live, not studio) I do admire her singing talent. She has a good voice and could go far..

More mainstream for the CH I've "got" Rush since about 1980.  I ignored them at first because of Geddy's squeaky voice.  I had a friend that was mad for Rush and just wouldn't shut up about them and kept playing all this weird stuff with sink o'pa cynko out of time drums and a squeaky singer. It wasn't until "Exit, stage left.." that something clicked and the squeaky voice didn't matter (or his voice broke...)

I was thinking along the same lines, Ol' Pal. The more I thought about this topic, the longer my list grew. The list of artists/bands I get would probably be a much shorter list due to my horribly narrow and stupidly opinionated tastes.

The fact that there are many genres, bands, and artists I don't like says much more about me than it does about them. I know that just because I don't like something does not mean that it is inherently bad. It only means that I don't like it.

I like Rush, but I don't like everything they've ever done. I like Dream Theater, but not all of their material. I like some pop. I like hard rock. I like some quirky, weird stuff. I'm picky and narrow minded. Everyone tells me that this means that I'm somewhat less of a person than I would be if I embraced all genres equally. I guess I'm subhuman, then. I'm okay with that.

yorolpal The list is too long to type.

Ha...being a jaded, not easy to please 66 year old....I totally agree.
I didn't read every response but I'll take my lumps by adding Rush to the mix.

Carry on...

I've seen over 50% of that list in concert. All but one act cannot ever perform live again (with the original line up).

I would say there's a few on that list that could never perform live...  but I'm not that cruel..

Karyn,

In 1968 LZ performed their arses off (for both sets). Two years later, not so much.

I think to be fair, the band/artist named has to be from the era when you were most actively listening to music.

And with that said, I honestly can't think of any band from my era (late 60s to early 80s) that I don't understand or connect with in any way for any song...

Okay, one: Van Halen.
