So anyway... I'm about to update all the firmware and software for the VS 700 and 8.5.3 and X1 Expanded on the same C drive of a new DAW computer. I'm a little unsure of the correct order of updates. I'm using the X64 version of Win 7 Home Premium shipping with the DAW computer from ADK. I'm pretty clear on things up to the point where the console firmware 1.31 needs to installed. I was under the impression the standalone 2.0 drivers for the console needed to installed first before 1.31. Now I'm not sure. And on X1 Expanded, do you install Expanded and the Pro Channel Modules before the X1d expanded patch update or after? There seems to be an installation instruction step missing there. Firmware first or software first? X1d first, or X1d Expanded first?

I just recently installed X1d Expanded on a new system following the steps documented in the link https://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013277?DL=Instructions :

Installation order for SONAR X1 Producer Expanded:
1. SONAR X1 Producer (release build 184) - available on disc or download from your Cakewalk store account
2. SONAR X1c Producer update (build 319) - available here
3. SONAR X1 Producer Expanded (build 425) - available via download from your Cakewalk store account
4. SONAR X1d Producer Expanded update (build 535) - available here

Worked fine all the way through, just takes ages ...

Installation order of ProChannel modules does not really matter, but I did it after X1d Expanded ... remember to do the VST scan otherwise it won't register the new modules ...
Can't say much about the firmware about as I'm a late adopter and received my VS-700 system with 1.3 installed ... but there are about 10 PDFs with instructions on the support site. They are long and elaborate, you will have to read all of them and might have to make notes on the proper order (this is what I did before receiving the system, but was lucky enough not to have to go through the execution) ...

The new DAW is here. It's really quiet ( whisper). Let the fun begin. Time to build the instrument.

Yeah, this year Christmas is early. My new DAW is close to final set-up. Not dead quiet, but close to (less fan 'noise' than the VS-700) and one beefy animal ... looks like a lot of fun to come in the next months

So what specs did you chaps go for with your shiny new DAWs?

Curious as the thought has crossed my (small) mind lately.

I went with Core i7 3770, 3.5ghz Quad 8 meg cache w/HT on a Gigabyte Z77M-DH3-MVP Motherboard, with 8Gb of DDR3 Ram. It has 8 Logical Cores in a cube case. Very fast, very quiet.
I wish the update path was going as smooth. I can't get the Fantom Synth to cooperate yet.
Updated  to all the 1.30 and 1.31 updates and installed the mewest Fantom VS update installer.
I still have a blued out type of band on the top controls, Patch drop down list, save button, etc.
The fantom keeps reverting to Pno on every channel. When I load an existing project  the channels show the right patch, but the channel drop down window says Pno. I can re-enter the right patch but I can't save it.
I need a fix for this before I can continue, and Roland is hard to work with on support.

My new specs:

Intel Core i7-3930K (6 x 3.2GHz) Sixcore w/ overclocking to 4 GHz
Asus Sabertooth X79 (Intel X79) motherboard
PHANTEKS PH-TC14PE cooler
32 GB DDR3 1600MHz (4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance)
Nvidia Geforce GT 630 2GB DDR3
120 GB SSD OCZ Agility3 SATA 600 0,00 0,00
(2x 1TB) 2000 GB WD HDD SATA 600, 64MB Cache, 5.400U/Min

First performance tests are looking really good, especially in terms of latency ... but I'm done with the full set-up yet. Got some more acoustical refurbishment work in the control room to be done first ...

Sounds great guys.... are your video cards fanless?

1600 speed ram has got to be good!

Cheers.
