I really like Session Horns. Particularly the "smart voice split" mode - invariably, it sounds great. But I've encountered a weird problem whereby if I select a factory preset for any of the internal effects (found by entering edit mode and opening InsertEffects), then the smart voice split immediately screws up and starts playing different voicings to the ones it was playing before. For the life of me I can't work out what's going on. Can someone who has this library check it out if they have time? Thanks.

I never use the internal effects.. just did a quick test and found nothing wrong, except some voicing goes louder due to the effect.. I might missed your steps. Can you provide the exactly steps of what went wrong ?

Is this the edit you meant (insert effects in orange) ?

No this was when you go into edit mode (the little wrench icon) and open the InsertEffects section. There you have the effects chain that's editable per horn part. The effects are in square boxes. Just right click on one and select a factory preset. Make sure you have the voicing mode set to "smart voice split" on the main page.

Session horns does sound great.  But it's sometimes screwy on my system.  It hangs and acts glitchy at times.  Seems random.  Pick em.

It could actually be K5 thing, that apparently has some issues.

I have Session Horns as well, but have yet to try any effects like that with it.

I'll see if I can duplicate the same situation as requested there, sharke.

I've been working with Session Horns for the past few days - and I was trying to find the wrench icon.. and I simply can't find it.. A wrench.. is a wrench.. but where is the wrench ?? perhaps it's not there as I'm using the Kontakt Player.

However, I just found that if I click on the 'animator' - the horns arrangement goes crazy.

Just found out about the animator function, as described at N.I website :
-------
The inventive Animator function provides an intuitive and inspiring way to jam authentic brass phrases while maintaining real-time control.

The detailed sample base was used to construct over 170 ultra-flexible, playable phrases – licks, stabs and progressions inspired by contemporary productions, covering a wide spectrum of genres and moods. Play a chord with one hand and select phrases with the other to create instant horn accompaniments from funk and pop to reggae, neo-soul, and indie – all phrases are easy to adapt to the track you’re working on, always in sync, and in perfect harmony.

The Animator is an endless source of inspiration, and an ideal starting point for your productions.

Usually the wrench icon is just to the left of the Output & MIDI Channel & below the Multi Rack title, but sometimes the icons are different on some K4/5 libraries, which is up to the interface designer.
Click on one of those 2 below the Multi Rack title, and it should give a drop down from there with all kinds of standard Kontakt options.

Also, thanks for the tip there Albert - didn't know about that up 'til now.

I can only assume then that Edit Mode, which is reachable via the aforementioned wrench icon, is only available in the full Kontakt. It's to the direct left of where it says "Session Horns" on the instrument header, and you appear to have some kind of cog icon there instead. In edit mode you can basically get in and mix all of the parts of the section individually in terms of level, panning and effects. I'm presuming you can also multi-out all the parts separately to give them their own tracks in Sonar, although I haven't attempted this yet (the effects in Kontakt are pretty damn good in my opinion and it's more than viable to fully mix the parts within the VST).

I'm not that keen on the mix presets in Session Horns, at least I haven't been able to find a preset which perfectly suits the song I'm working on, which is why I ended up delving into Edit Mode. The animator is excellent though. It's ideal if you're just adding horns for a bit of color and texture and aren't looking to arrange something note by note. I can usually find an animator preset which goes great with the song, although it would be nice if you could go in and edit them the way you can in say, Scarbee Funk Guitarist.
