I got to see Eric Clapton for the first time last night at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. Highly enjoyable! The set list will probably appear here shortly,http://www.whereseric.com/eric-clapton-tour/06/03/2014 if not I think it was the same as the previous show in Singapore.

Clapton's still got it at 68.Excluding the backing singers the bands age ranged from 58 to 69. Steve Gadd looked, but did not sound tired.

Paul Carrack was a treat and the rendition of Ace's "How Long" was one of the highlights.

The outdoor venu is is not huge and we were not too far back even though we just had the cheap tickets. Ironically the "VIP" seating was probably twice as far from the stage.

One thing slightly niggled me, who ever was selecting the shots for the screens seemed totally unable to decide which keyboard player was soloing Carrack would be playing a solo on the Hammond and the closeup would be of Chris Stainton comping on the piano.

There are shows in the USA and Europe over the next few months.

I finally saw Clapton only in this century too … when he did the Cream tour (2005?) and again when he toured with Steve Winwood (2009?).  You talk about the band’s age, at both of the shows that I saw, 58 and above was pretty much the audiences demographic and I will add it was predominantly male.

Steve Gadd is one of my favorites and I have seen him several times with James Taylor.  We went to see the Paul Simon / Sting tour a couple of weeks ago in St. Paul and I was hoping Paul Simon had Gadd in his band (I didn’t do any research ahead of time) but alas, he did not.  Apparently, he is touring with ClaptonJ  I don’t usually look-up who is in the band ahead of time … I like to see how many members of the band I can name and then check later.  James Taylor is great for that; his band is always a who’s who of A listers.

The Demographic of the audience here in Dubai was very different. But that comes with territory and the nature of the population.

It seem a pretty even mix of male and female with a pretty broad spectrum of ages and nationalities. The thirty something women in the group behind us were singing along at one point and the mum of the family in front (Russians I think) seemed to be the most enthusiastic.
