Looks like XLN is going to have a EZ Drummer 2 like version. I'm totally in the Toontrack camp but am I incorrect to say that if you just purchased X3 you will be getting AD 2 for free? Have a look at the FAQ on XLN's website. The upgrade is only $79 to begin with. Also, does it not hold true with bundled software such as X3 that there is a reason certain products are included? It should be a red flag that the software included is A. a lite version, B. soon to be discontinued.

A) Why a "red flag"?
B) It was not a lite version of AD included in X3. It only lacked AD Paks IIRC which were always optional for all of us previous owners of AD.

I'll give you that it will soon be "discontinued" but that does not mean it will be disabled if you stay on the version 1 of the product.

If one reads the web page, one discovers that even though they will no longer sell AD 1. They will support it for the time being.

One can pray that X3 users get it free...that would make me the
happiest AD and Sonar Customer on the planet...and I'd be in good
company....but I think we just get a reduced upgrade price...

Yes, I know.  I said "A or B" .  Addictive falls into B.  Melodyne and many others fall into A.  X3 is still a great deal.  A or B, still very usable.

Actually you did not say "or". You said ",".
