I'm in the process of downgrading one of my PC's so I can use my racing game setup below.

Why do I have to downgrade?  Well, the main connector requires a game port and all of the games are now about tens years old or older!

What I can't understand is that during the late 90's into the early 2000's, simulation games kept getting better and better (and more realistic).  Only computational speed, memory, disk space and monitor size were really holding it back.  Now, with everything I just mentioned light-years better, the best racing simulations (according to those who REALLY get into it) are still those from around 2003??!  And now you're forced to watch on those ridiculous wide and short monitors (because SOMEONE obviously thinks the only reason to have one is to watch movies on - they're feckin' useless for real work too...).

I get why the knee-jerk reaction to not improve flight simulators happened, but that's no excuse for other areas.  We should have games by now that use REAL images where everything is accounted for and modeled accurately.  Instead there are some flashy BS arcade games - fun, but useless.

I want to experience the thrill of these activities without any real danger.  But this isn't the only area, I'd love to see games like the Descent series updated to take advantage of all the power, speed and storage that's now available.  Any game that can cause some people to get motion sickness is obviously doing something right!  If I want reality, I'll go outside and experience it, but when I want off-the-wall fun then let me have that too!  The clueless idiots in Hollywood shouldn't be driving what we use computers for...

Ok, I'm off to install XP and a flippin' SoundBlaster that has a game port again and hope all my games still work, otherwise I'm stuck with a very expensive and useless dinosaur.

Man...
all I can say is back when I was into flight and racing sims things happened
that I know, without doubt, that your neighbors and the rescue folks would
sure have a good laugh about how that bozo flew out his window- took out two
fences, patio railings and damage to a few houses before coming to crash landing
two streets over...that's why I noticed there isn't a seat belt.

Who knows?  No one's ever been able to positively identify that mythical creature.

Nice... I've never seen anything like that! Of course I am from the "Pinball generation".

BTW, I used to be a noid but it didn't pay enough, and it was really aggravating.

NASCAR Racing Season 2003

You must be side-kick psychic Mike!  That's the only game I've loaded on there so far...

I've got a bunch of others ranging from silly arcade fun to GTR, but NASCAR Racing Season 2003 is STILL considered to be one of the top racing SIMs ever made.  *Sigh...*

Did you build that or buy it? I'm thinking it would be ____ to use 4 monitors, two for the windshield, and one on each side for front windows, maybe a tablet for a rearview mirror... if the tech will support that, if not.. it should.
I bet your setup there is a lot of fun!

The base is called a "Hot Seat," the wheel is a Thompson-Superwheel TS2 (they have controllers up to $1,600!).

My dream setup would have three large monitors with the two on the sides angled back towards me.  Someday!
