It was nice Kenny.

One thing I don't see much of now is collaborating; I remember when collabs were a regular thing, and it was genuinely exciting to hear what a combination of players would come up with. Doesn't seem to be that 'community spirit' anymore where someone would offer up the bare bones of a track and just see what happened.

I don't mind admitting to being quite terrified getting involved in collabs with people like yourself, Mark Wessels, Randy Bowser, Ed Edge, Bill Davies etc, but I learned a great deal, because I had to raise my game considerably each time...and that's no slight on anyone else I may or may not be/have been collaborating with at the moment/in the past

Hey James,

Yes , I hear you , some of the collabs I did got me through some tough times .

You have worked with some very talented collab mates ( you still do  )

All the guys you mentioned in your post are great people in my book

I will say it here , on the record …you did raise your game Big Time

I hope I can get back …. I'm working hard on learning what i need to learn to make it happen .

all the best ,

Kenny

So what can we do to revive it and bring it back to life?

I have many songs from SF contributors on my mp3 player and listen to them often. Over the years I have found a lot of inspiration there one way or another and it's sad to see the way it has gone.

I have a few on my iPhone as well.  There is some really good work that is being done by members here and it is inspiring to listen to and brings forth ideas for my own song.  I believe that Bit mentioned this once, but I wish more people would make their material downloadable while posting in the SF.  I generally like to listen to the same song a few times to make any real mix comments and sadly the times I generally have to listen are not when I am in the studio.  If I have them on the iPhone, I can listen to them on my long commutes to and from work.

I will try to get back to listening and posting as time permits.  I like to help/encourage those that welcome it.  I won't be giving pats on the back for no reason - never did that anyway.  The SF is my main outlet for song sharing and there are certainly some very talented people posting there.

Leave the lights on.

Hi All, long time lurker first time poster ; ) I like the song forum for what it is. A place to share your music and get some inspiration. It helps if you know how bad your own contribution is and if you don't, well. ignorance is bliss ; )
I've met some nice people there, did quite a few collaborations. And if people tell me they love my music, I'm vain enough to take a compliment ; )

So it (SF) is not really dead but is in ICU?

Yup, buy it some flowers or a box of chocolates to make it feel better ; )

And don't tell the song forum it's dead, it doesn't even know it's terminal.

For whatever it's worth, one of the other forums I go to is having a very similar discussion to some we've had here.  Too much bashing and not enough song participation so it's not an isolated issue.  Probably it's just everyone going through a cycle and then we'll be back to normal (whatever the heck that is!).
