I have had this for ages and its one of my goto synths. I just checked my account and found that there is now a 64 bit version.

I missed that - I never saw any notifications

I've long used the free Minimogue for Minimoog emulation. Although it adds features the original never had, to my ear it sounds authentic.

I know Minimonsta is very popular, though, making me curious as to why people are willing to pay $250 for it when there are a number of less-expensive (even free) alternatives. I've heard the developer say it's the sound quality. But the Minimoog only offered 3 basic waveforms; how different can two virtual pulse-width oscillators sound?

Not sure. Filters? Synth guys always talk about them filters. Though I've noticed that most of the time, the "better-sounding" synth are the ones where the actual sound is "enhanced" w/ onboard fx which didn't exist on the original.

Anyway, I'm a guitar guy and quite happy w/ the MiniMoog which Arturia gave for free on music day a few years ago. That one and Steinberg's Retrologue, which isn't an exact replica but does the Moog thing brilliantly and the easiest for me to use.

Yah, filters.

I guess I've never been a real "synth guy" because I've never waxed romantic about filters.

This'll sound like heresy, but Moog filters never seemed particularly special to me. They were steeper than most, and responsible for the classic Moog sound. But while 24dB/octave filters were rare in the 70's, and the Moog filter was an elegant design, such filters are not at all difficult to implement in the digital domain. I would expect one 4-pole LPF to sound pretty much like the next. Unless, of course, I'm wrong about that.

Well there is patch morphing, OK, not an authentic Mini Moog feature but it adds to Minimonsta's utility. The lower octave is dedicated to key switches. For each patch, each keyswitch will trigger a variation of the sound. The morphing time between the sounds is fully adjustable.

Another non authentic feature is the modulation matrix, as is optionial polyphony.

I recently acquired Monark as part of Komplete 8 and Arturias Mini V in another there V series bundle. I much prefer Minimonsta to either.

In terms of sound quality/authenticity or overall, taking into account the extra features?

Overall. Monark is certainly the most "authentic" but I like the extra features in Minimonsta and it sounds just as good to my ears. I acquired the Arturia after the other two as part of the V series bundle. To me its the weakest of the V series and I don't like it as much as Minimonsta or Monark.

I'm more one for bundles and since they were rather "funny" with me regarding doing em, they can keep em.
