Mick
Hi there,

Can anybody give me a brief comparison of these two plugins, or point me to one?  I've searched but most of the comparisons I've found are pretty old.  I just got Sonar X3 Producer, and I have an old version of RealGuitar/RealStrat, and I'm trying to figure out if its worth the relatively cheap upgrade price to RealGuitar3.  It's been so long since I've used Realguitar I'm going to have to spend some time learning whichever one I end up using.  Is Strum Acoustic Session worth the effort if I have RealGuitar?  Thanks

Real guitar all day long for me. There are demos of both available but beware of RG3 demo as it overwrites your existing RG installation and so turns your fully functional multi guitar licenced version into a limited (one guitar only)  demo version and the only way out of it is to uninstall the demo and then re-install your existing version. I learnt that the hard way. Musiclab's reply to my questioning this was that it is intended behaviour and they couldn't really seem to appreciate that it is a not a very good idea for those who own earlier versions and want to try the new one before buying. I suggested that they should at least make demo downloaders aware of this, but I have no idea if they implemented that or not. It annoyed me a lot at the time and I didn't buy it for that reason. AFAIK  RG2 and RG3 sound identical, there was no upgrade to the sounds, just the UI and functionality that changed and the ability to use a guitar-hero style controller for more "realism", but as this requires you to input the chord progression into your sequencer first it seemed a bit of a faff and I decided that it was just easier play on a keyboard in real time as before.

Can't speak to the interface/playability, cuz I'm not a keys player, but I spent tens of hours A/Bing the samples and ended up w Real Guitar.

Be very careful making the purchase. You can click on Buy RealGuitar Now, and end up with RealLPC or Strat if you don't doublecheck the order. No refunds in that case, but MusicLab did make me a bundle offer I didn't refuse.

Thank you both - I guess I'm gonna go with the reasonably-cheap RealGuitar/RealStrat combo - Any opinions on RealGuitar vs. Strat vs. LPC?

Disclaimer: I am not a guitar player. Pianoman.

That having been said, I bought RG and RS bundled. I use both. Mainly RG for folk/accoustic, RG and RS for rock. I looked at LPC a while back and decided that there was not enough of a difference between it and RS to my non-guitar ears to pay for both RS and LPC. I think what you do with plugs is at least as important as the synth.

I would much rather have had LPC over Strat, but I bought RG and RS in a bundle deal and there wasn't a LPC/RG bundle available. I asked Musiclab if I could have LPC instead of Strat which was the same price at the time, but they wouldn't do it for whatever reason. I had all three on demo at the time and I just liked the sound of LPC so much more. You will be safe with the LPC demo if you don't already have LPC installed, so you can A/B the in a project.

Is there any good video tutorial on how to use RG?
I have tried many times and I am not convinced. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
Can't use it in any track without sound very fake/mechanical.
Please advise

Mick,

I have the full boat RG series. They all have their intended use just as in real life.

Strum Acoustic is nice (I own it) but I actually like Strum Maker IV by Indiginus  better (I own it too).

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.
(see what I did there?)

Real Guitar is my go to plug for acoustic guitar. Indiginus acoustics a distant 2nd.

Real Guitar just seems to sit well in most mixes.

It takes a while to acclimate to their velocity settings as they are different from most guitar plugs. Once you figure them out I think you'll agree that Real Guitar is one of the best of the bunch. I tend to vary my velocities in the 60-70 range. Everything sounds natural in that zone. 80-90 for harder notes.

Real LP is great but I rarely use Real Strat.
