Before we forget Orange Tree Samples for acoustic guitar I thought I'd better mention Acoustic Slide and Steel Strings.

Mick . . . I am a long time MusicLab Real Guitar user . . . when I tried Strum Acoustic (the one that came free with X3) I played with it for an hour . . . well, there really was no contest. Real Guitar wins.

Like Paulo says earlier, if you already have Real Guitar 2, then Real Guitar 3 is just a cosmetic interface upgrade, no obvious notable change in the samples.

As far as Sonar 64 bit compatibility, Real Guitar 3 is 64 bit, and works seamlessly in my Sonar X3e install . . . so if your system has been upgraded since you used Real Guitar 2, it's one thing to consider ? (also, in my opinion Music Lab's product support is poor, if that's important to you in a software company)

Thank you both - I guess I'm gonna go with the reasonably-cheap RealGuitar/RealStrat combo - Any opinions on RealGuitar vs. Strat vs. LPC?

Well, real guitar is an acoutic. Of the two electrics they sound very different so it is a case of what sound you prefer. If I had to have one or the other I would go with the LPC. The big point with these electrics is the sound is clean, straight from the pickups, so you need to put them through an amp sim.

If you have Kontakt, as other have mentioned Orange Tree Samples Steel Strings Acoustic and Strawberry Electric and very good. Indiginus have cheaper but useful electric and acoustic guitars for Kontakt.

For another non-Kontakt option you may also want to look at Amplesound. I have not tried these myself but I have heard good reports.

Hi all,
     Related question...

I have both RG2L and RS.   I was running them (without issue) on a 32-bit system with 8.5P.
     I recently moved to a 64-bit system running X2.

When I installed RG2L and tried running a track through it I am getting latency that wasn't there in the older config.

FWIW, I am also running some other VSTs and am *not* getting the latency with those.

Any thoughts as to why I am suddenly experiencing the latency issue with the RG VST?

Much thanks,
-Dennis

I went from 8.5/32 to X3 32 & 64 bit installations and haven't had any issues, so I would guess it's something in your set-up rather than RG which is the problem.

Be aware, Real Strat gives you ONE instrument only. NO presets no nothing, a basic 40mb single strat..The size is nowhere near the alleged space required when it is installed..well over 400mb.

At least Strum Electric gives you a LARGE amount of presets to start with and tweak out. Oh and there are NO effects in RS (you do get effects - O/D distortion etc etc) in the AAS instruments

Oh and this is pretty important too, the standalone of RS gives no option for insert effects. Seems if you want to use (well FORCED to) an external effect you have to run RS in host.

Only works if your DAW is online though, unless they have changed it. I found out the hard way after having already wasted hours with downloads that failed in the last few seconds.

A couple others that you could consider are ilyaefimov (I like their acoustics), ChrisHein, PettinHouse and Vir2 Acou6tics. I personally equated ilyaefimov, Pettinghouse and Orangetree together and Acou6tics alng side of Amplesound. I ended up buying  ilyaefimov over Orangetree and Acou6tics over Amplesound but I want them all. I just ran out of money.

Strum provides a very well thought out interface to allow a keyboard player to play like a real guitarist.  Before making a decision, check out the video on the AAS site where somebody who really knows what they're doing constructs a totally compelling (IMO) performance.  The video can be seen here:

https://www.applied-acoustics.com/strumelectric/overview/

If you're interested, I just wrote a review in which I spend a fair amount of time describing how the interface works.  You can read that here:
