Sure you wouldn't want to read a good piece of fiction at 500wpm. When I'm reading Wodehouse I deliberately slow down to savor the language and the dialog because it's so great. But the thing about Spritz is that you can choose your own speed. How about 300wpm? The point is that as a medium, it takes a lot less space (ideal for embedding on web pages etc) and for a lot of people it's an easier way to read. Sometimes my brain will inadvertently read a word on the line below and it will sort of "color" what I'm reading on the line above. With Spritz you have way more focus and stability which may improve comprehension and retention.

But yeah, for texts you have to "get through," 500 or even 1000wpm sounds great. Were you referring to "Code Complete" Craig? I've yet to get through that one, lol....

I can read a book that fast if I read it twice.

No, "Clean Code" and "Agile Principles Patterns and Practices In C#" both by Robert "Uncle Bob" Martin.

Of course this kind of forced attention will improve reading speed for the material being presented. In the days of paper books, people were achieving similar results by placing their finger in the middle of the line and forcing themselves to read at an uncomfortable speed by dragging it down the page. In fact you can quickly learn to totally ignore "filler" words so you did not even have to "read" a portion of the printed line to make sense of it. You cant do that with serially presented words as in the example posted. Most written material could be reduced to a tweet per page without losing  the important points, so comprehension is not as seriously impaired as most people think. Something you need to intellectually master or  think about, let alone enjoy is not so amenable
