Good day luminaries....

My old 8Port SE midi patch bay is giving me grief so I think I'm going to need a new midi patch bay.
I'm using a Roland JV-30 (keyboard controller), Roland MBD-1, Roland MVS-1, Proteus FX.
So, I need a 4in/4out.

I was looking at the Midiman Midisport 4x4 and have read many less than favorable reviews but those reviews were a couple of years old.
I'm somewhat ignorant of the USB interfaces or any issues that may exist.

I don't know of any other manufacturers.

If anyone could offer some direction I'll thank you in advance.

Carry on....

I made it as far as the word "luminaries."  That's some kind of glow-in-the-dark bird, right?

(Actually, I have a Midisport 8x8 and an even older, smaller Midiman unit that I haven't used for years, both are getting very long in the tooth, but work great.  I'm sure there's newer stuff out there now, but really, has anything actually changed with MIDI over the last few years?  I don't know...)

I have a MOTU Micro Lite. Works great and looks good in the rack! Feels kinda bad that I never use any of the 'out' ports anymore though...

craigb.....so much knowledge in the this forum I could resist using luminaries.

Svenarne...thanks, that's the kind of info I was looking for.

Spacealf....I did do some research on the internet.
I guess I just wanted to interact with others of like interest and get their personal thoughts and experiences.
These forums seem appropriate for that.....IMO.

Forgot to say I'm on Win7/X2 and slowly adjusting to the new GUI.

Thanks to all...carry on.

Just a thanks to those that offered their experience and some direction.
I pulled the trigger at MF early last night on the Midisport 4x4.
Should have it on Wednesday.

Carry on....

I have both the Midisport 4x4 and a Midispot 4x4 Anniversary (the new version that is black). Both work great. I made a point to plug them directly into the PC USB ports (not a hub) because I did have some weird random disconnects when running through hubs.

Before that, I had an 8x8 that worked great. I kind of like the 4x4s better though, because they are bus powered.

Good to know.
I look forward to getting the keyboard controller & modules up and running again.
I migrated to Win7 several months ago and my MidiQuest 8Port SE and Win7 continue to butt heads.
I'd had the 8Port since 1999 and worked well with WinXP all the these years so guess I can't complain.
It's a great piece of hardware.

Thanks for commenting...

Yes, USB hubs need to time-share if you will.  So it gives priority to one then another, putting the first on "hold" - not good for MIDI!
