That's a bum mer.
It was easy but I found a nice high-back with arms that swivel-great for playing
and I've repaired it a few times. Last time I looked I couldn't find a replacement. Plenty with arms that don't fold up.

At the DAW I use a drafting chair.

I use a hybrid: a standard, comfy office chair for which I bought an extended piston, turning it into a drafting chair... or a really, really high office chair, whichever way you wanna look at it.
 
But I agree this is the way to go. Move the chair out of the way and I can stand at my desk with a guitar strapped on and I don't have to bend down, crouch, or anything like that.
 
Oh, yeah. My bad word: scuttlebutt! (Get it? scuttle as in sinking ship... butt as in... you know...)
