If sinkholes are  badgers revenge, then these badgers must have a personal vendetta against Orlando, FL. Apparently, this city is sinkhole central. I was ready to do the final signing of purchasing a home and I just decided to call and get some quotes on home owners insurance. My auto ins. company refused to give me a quote as their research stated that this property is within .3 miles of a sinkhole. Of course, we immediately withdrew from this deal and found out that Orlando is full of badgers  sinkholes.

Other ins. companies would insure the property, but their premiums were higher (most likely due to this). To me, it didn't matter whether they insured it or not, as I'm not taking any chances with my precious family. It's one thing if the sinkhole was unknown to everyone and just happened, but when it's a known quantity, there's no way I'll put my family in that situation. Per some of the geological surveys done, there's a lot of limestone underground plus being around the lots of water, it makes this a sinkhole friendly environment.

I'm going for a job interview tomorrow (which unexpectedly just came about) in another city (still in FL), and without any activity (known) from these pesky badgers. I'm sure that all these things taking place at the same time are signs for me in avoiding the wrath of the badger!!

You may want to avoid Kentucky then as well.  I was teasing a friend that lives in Bowling Green (where a big sinkhole suddenly swallowed up several vintage cars at the Corvette museum there about a week ago) and he said they have more underground cave systems than anyone - so LOTS of sinkholes.

Ouch....

Yeah, Kentucky is OFF my remotely possible lists.

If it's not earthquakes in Cali, it's the Hurricanes in Fl + sinkholes in between.......sheesh, where AM I to post a tent?

We tell everyone to avoid the Portland Metro Area because it rains all the time.  We lie.  It's wonderful up here and very few "natural" disasters to look out for (perhaps the occasional volcano, but all the soot and ash goes east anyway).

I'm hoping that's a quote from a movie or something and not just Craig (ITHRN) "losing it"

True story...
about 15 yrs ago I built a swingset for our grand daughter.
I had been cutting down many very big trees on our property and had some large sections to get rid of.

My in-laws were visiting. The family went to town and my father-in-law and I were sitting on the patio talking and he asked what I was going to do with the big sections, I told him I wished I had a big hole to roll them off in.

He went in to take a noon nap and I hauled some dirt over to the bottom of the slide to fill-in and level ther ground.
I stamped with my feet to pack the dirt and the ground sunk and the grass separated in a circle about 3 ft dia.
I freaked...step back and hit it with the shovel and that area dropped out of site! followed by a splash from what I could tell was pretty deep.
From what I could tell it was at least 10' deep and took me a long time to fill it in.

The people that had built the house had a metal tank used for the septic system- before there was local sewer and never had the tank removed when they switched over. Took quite a few years but the top finally rusted away.

Well I got my wish and was sure glad about that...for many reasons.  Made for quite a family story.

I knew the guys son that built the house...yeah I told him. I probably looked something like this to him...
