I assume I can use Melodyne to fix mistakes since I'm recording the raw guitar input (haven't tried yet).

Yep.

Considering the amount of mistakes I make.......if not anything else, I can become a Pro Melodyne editor.

(see what I did there?)

Am I the only one who finds Amplitube noisy and brittle sounding? Don't get me wrong, I really want to like it. Any every time I read positive comments about it, I download another few Custom Shop amp/head combos to try out ('cause i'm convinced it must be me). I've gotten great clean sounds from it, but the minute the distortion/overdrive kicks in, I find it unmusically harsh.

Hi Monkey,
I don't get that at all. In fact, I am totally surprised by the warmth and harmonics that come out of it (never thought I'd describe a modeler with those words). It makes me wonder if you have an issue with your input or gain staging. Until I got my signal path sorted out, I wasn't happy with the results. Once I dialed in my interface it came alive.

If you haven't tried some of the presets from the Present Exchange I highly recommend you do so - there are some well-dialed-in sounds there. What type of tone are you looking for? I may have a preset to recommend...

Many of the presets are not "Preset" with the Noise Gate...they give you the "raw"
amp sound and leave it to you to set the "Gate" to your liking...so when you select
them you'll get the "whole shabang" noise and all...

The distortions, to me, are not as "digital" as the others...they don't have that "thing" that the others
do..they sound more "real" to me....still not as good as "the real deal" but getting closer...

But, I have to say, Amplitube has overtaken GR5 for me...I can't get the same "realism"
with GR5 that I get with Amplitube...but, that's just me...

I have just about every Amp Sim out there...while S-Gear is far better for Mild Drive and Clean...
Amplitube is a butt stomper...across the spectrum...

AmpLion is pretty nice...but still not quite there yet...

GR5 was my "Go to"....but has taken a back seat...

Revalver...eh...workable if you work at it...
TH2....same....not thrilled, but sorta usable...

I have all the free bees too....some are ok, some, not so much...but free....so can't complain
(even though I still do  )...

All in all....Amplitube has taken top seat IMO...and it is getting used more and more...

PLEASE NOTE:  This is purely MY OPINION...your mileage may vary....

Love Amplitube. I bought Fender and Ampeg and moved on to other things. I'm pretty happy.

Some of you know my son is in a death-metal band. So he uses Amplitube metal. He's all about "that" tone.

When they were working in their last album and had raw guitar tracks, the producer said they should re-amp. So, my son takes his tracks home and uses Amplitube Metal to "re-amp". The producer was wowed and asked what amp did he re-amp with. When he found out it Amplitube the producer was blown away. He did not expect that.

At Craig Anderton's suggestion, I have started to roll off some of the highs with an EQ placed in front of A3. That helps to tame any of the fizz or brittle high end on the more distorted or overdriven tones on all of the sims. Also, set the inputs and outputs in A3. You want to have a solid signal going in, but make sure you stay out of the red on the way out.

Thanks smallstonefan and cclarry for your comments. Like i said, I'm talking strictly about overdriven guitars. I've gotten great clean sounds out of Amplitube (and even better out of Scuffham s-gear) but I am still in search of the holy grail of heavily distorted Marshall sounds (think first G'n'R album). Though I haven't tried the Slash version, I still hear the same thing from the demos I've heard.
I HAVE gotten good sounds out of Overloud THM but still not quite what I'm looking for.
I know, I know. Then buy a Marshall or a Blackstar or whatever, but my recordings are done late at night with a sleeping wife and four kids in adjoining rooms ;)

Seems like Slash is the one to try. This is where the customshop is useful.
