is it change for the sake of it-I bought a new Toshiba Satellite P70A as we are finally connected to fixed wireless broadband(130mbps) and I just can`t see how things are "better"
if I wanted apps on my desktop I would have bought a Mac!!
I have been running both laptops now for a week, one W7,the other W8 and I just still don`t get W8-it just feels clumsy.
can install W7 on my new lap and dual boot 7 or 8 so you have the choice at startup?
anyone??
thanks in advance

Hi Tony,
I've been using win 8.1 for a few months now on my studio PC. Here's what I think so far.

It runs really smoothly. I mean I thought Win 7 was smooth but win 8 is better. Is it more functional. I don't think so. The whole apps screen thing seems a bit strange and having to find the desktop and where seldom used programs hide, that is, ones not pinned to the task bar is all a bit weird. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time but while I spend most of my time working to learn X3 and get the studio setup I've got to say that win8 is pretty well transparent once I'm working in the software I really want to use.

I have a laptop and desktop that I have win 8 licences for and when I have time I will update them both but I'm in no hurry.

hi Mike-thanks for the encouragement.
I only use the laptop for the net and mail so I have just customised the desktop to be a bit friendlier.
my main beef is the lack of a "start"function and even worse, they have ruined FREECELL!

I doubt my daw will ever see Windows 8-it`s absolutely bulletproof on 7 so why change.

ps: I was having an ultrasound in hospital on their state of the art new machine and guess what it was running......XP Premium!
pretty sure my bank, and my accountant still use Xp-so much for upgrades.
cheers

Better yet, stick with only the odd number releases of Windows.

"stick with only the odd number releases"
that`s a myth-I bought  S3,S5,S7 and got lucky with 8.5.
if X1 was Sonar 9 that completely blows your theory.
so there.

Note the qualification at the end: "of Windows.
(I'm still using SONAR Producer v4!)

selectively quoting someone has it`s pitfalls especialy if you think your post is betterer than the last post.
