Yup.... I use it daily.

Such a handy and useful oil. I saw something on the FB which listed over 50 different uses for it.

Back home in Sri Lanka, coconut trees are everywhere, and is used in almost all foods. Everything from coconut oil, coconut milk used in every curry (scrape the coconut and then compress to extract the milk), scraped coconut for other various food preparations, coconut water, ferment the coconut water and you have a mild alcoholic beverage, coconut oil for lamps, and many other household uses etc....
This coconut fad that's going around now is only popular (especially in the US) because some big company decided to market it out here, but this has been extensively used for many, many, many centuries. As for the health concerns, especially from the extensive useage of it back home, we've attributed a longer/healthier life due to the use of coconut products. Of course, we've also taken it for granted that "too much of anything, is good for nothing"  and moderation is always the key.

The smell is a strong reminder of the many times I sunned alongside the Glenwood, Co. hot springwater swimming pool getting loaded on Mai Tai drinks. Yep, coconut oil sunscreen and Mai Tai drinks sure worked out good to me.

I used to gig in Vail valley, '85-'94 and all over CO and NM. Glenwood Springs was my favorite place to hang-unwind. I have lived a lot of my life in Michigan and used it at the beach, enjoying Lake Michigan!
But lately, after giving up grains/wheat (read Wheat Belly by Davis and Grain Brain!), my wife starting cooking with it and came up with a marvelous treat (un-named as yet) and we are gobbling that up!
It's just not for tanning, anymore! LOL

I gigged all over NM but Co. was vacation time.
I didn't do clubs while in Vail but sure enjoyed the condo view by the fire getting loaded and watching the skiers.

Last trip sometime in early '80's.
Got my first Adrian Belew album in Vail :)
...come to think...it may have been his first. To long ago for me to remember.
 Lone Rhino..that's it.

It's been a very long time since I've experienced a pressed virgin. Can't even remember what that's like. But coconut oil, or more precisely coconut milk, is part of my regular diet, being a standard ingredient of both Filipino and Indian food. It's what makes a curry sauce creamy. My wife uses coconut oil on her hair. We always bring a few bottles of the stuff back with us from the islands. Tip: a minute in the microwave before applying to any, er, sensitive parts.

Coconut milk and coconut oil are two fully different things. Coconut milk has a high oil content, whereas coconut oil is pure fat.
Coconut oil looks and feels just like olive oil or rapeseed oil, except for the color.

I'm no health freak, but isn't coconut oil the least recommendable of all plant oils?
Taste is fine, I agree.

I just read that the official Greek nutrition recommendations say  rapeseed/canola oil is harmfull compared to olive oil, because it contains so much polyunsaturated acids :o/  I wonder if such a statement exists. That would be ridicilous.
Have you ever put cold pressed virgin olive oil and cold pressed virgin canola oil in the fridge? I was surprised to see, that the rapeseed oil remained fluid, the olive oil went hard. I sort of assume, that's the way they behave in my internal system as well. Up here we believe rapeseed oil is even healthier than olive oil. Logically. We don't produce olives :o)

OK. Had to check it. Coconut oil has more hard fats than butter, over 90 %. Coconut oil and palm oil are the only vegetable oils that can not be recommended on a health basis compared to butter.

Outdated advice based on a study of the wrong kind of coconut oil. Expeller pressed coconut oil is bursting with goodies and is actually very healthy.
