I heard of something for the first time today...not unusual for me but related...frost quakes.

We're getting hit a bit today too.  Temps in the teens, some snow and winds gusting to 85 mph in places.
 
Good thing I got all my errands done yesterday and don't need to leave the house until next week! 

My area here in the NE was hit pretty bad by ice. Thousands lost power. I was one of the fortunate ones, our power is underground and it only flickered a few times.
 
Ive seen ice before but this was different. The trees had a heavy coating of snow on them already and then the ice came on top of that. I have never seen so many mangled and cracked trees. I have several down on my property. Big limbs came down all over. Trees fell into houses onto cars and across many power lines. The bad thing was the wind started blowing that evening and about every minute or less you could hear  trees cracking and limbs falling. If you happened to be standing under it when it happened you might wake up dead no kiddin'
 
I'm going out to look for a chainsaw chain sharpener soon so I can clean it all up.

It's getting progressively worse in the SW of England. The Somerset levels (below Glastonbury Tor) have been flooded since December, and the rain just keeps on coming. Devon, Cornwall and parts of Wales are being constantly battered by storm force winds and rain, railway lines washed away, approx 5000 homes flooded...it'll take months and millions to put it all right.
 
For once, the winter weather in Scotland is comparatively pleasant.

Here in Suffolk UK, I've witnessed puddles the like of which haven't been seen before in these parts.

New York has a time tested way of minimizing the impact of these storms which works 99% of the time. The mayor simply declares an impending disaster and warns people to stay indoors. Since New York mayors are inherently wrong about everything, the resultant storm is almost always but a fraction of what they say it will be.

We got like 3 inches of snow it looks like ... amazing ... it's all white outside and it ain't even Christmas!

More coming.  It won't suck until we go above freezing just enough to melt some of it and turn it into ice at night.
