Actually today is the real 50th Anniversary as it was the day they landed in America. And, technically speaking it was not Feb 9th that they "first" appeared on American TV. Yes, the first live performance but they were actually shown on film from Liverpool on the Jack Paar show about a month before they appeared on Ed's Really Big Shew.

Well, I am a die hard Beatles fan; they landed in America on my birthday 50 years ago today. Yes, I was only 11 years old but I was already into them BIG TIME since I had seen the film clip on the Jack Paar show a month earlier. I was pumped up to see them on the BIG SHEW Eddie put on every Sunday night.
