@lawajava I just touched base with Kirk and learned that (1) while he's adding violins, violas and cellos recordings to Spotlight Strings with different mics and recording techniques at no cost for existing Spotlight Strings customers (allow at least a month before these are ready) and (2) there are no plans to create a version of Easy String Arranger for Spotlight Strings. Kirk mentioned that adapting ESA for Spotlight Strings would require a great deal of code that would near Kontakt's script line limit.

When you say "adding", are the new samples in addition to the existing ones or is he replacing? So far in my short time with Spotlight Strings, I really like how they blend with EWQLSO. Much better that the Garritan samples I have (that I hardly used).

Dan

Hi Dan,

I'm right with you on this. Kirk told me that he is adding the new sampled instruments to the existing ones, so you'll be able to keep the instruments you already like and get new ones that provide you with new options. I would call it the best of both worlds and the way I was hoping Kirk would handle things. And I'd urge everyone who hasn't already weighed in on their preferences for the new Spotlight Strings recordings/samples Kirk has shared to do so ASAP, as Kirk is still looking for input (ideally, post over at the KVR thread, as Kirk isn't a Sonar user; I make him aware of what's going on here, but he spends his time and posts at KVR; and Kirk isn't huge into online posting; he's kind of the antithesis of the salesy devs or their social media salesforce, hence why I roll up my sleeves and work with him on posting for Group Buys; honestly, it's a lot like getting together with a good friend and helping him Spackle and his house or move furniture; there's work to be done, but you have fun during the process) and he will soon be wrapping things up. I wish more sample libraries would be developed with that kind of level of customer input and I want to see people get involved.

Thanks for all the updates on this Peter. Kirk has friends over here whether he knows it or not.

I wish you guys would let this thread die already, I've already bought 3 libraries from Kirk because of this thread...
C'mon midnight (PST)!

I've told Kirk to visit this forum if he's ever bummed out and he'll feel the love!

Okay, this has absolutely nothing to do with anything, I just found this music video today and my young kids (5 and 9) think the music and video are possible the most horrible, yet amusing, thing they've ever seen.

I wish had the cash for Spotlight Strings, but alas, I do not.   So I picked up Solo Strings 1 instead!

This is my first KH library and so far I'm very pleased with it.   For $40 it's really good.  And TVEC3 makes it very easy to move between articulations and sample variations.  Very cool.   The only other orchestral samples I have are GPO and Miroslav CE, and as solo (or "spotlight") strings these are just so much... better.   I look forward to using them.

Great to hear that your enjoying Solo Strings 1, Steve! I took a similar journey to yours, starting with GPO then Miroslav Philharmonik, xSample and some other string libraries here and there before moving up to Kirk's libraries and working with him. It's also amazing the difference the scripting makes (e.g., TVEC, etc.) with string libraries (as well as many other types of libraries too).

Thanks, Peter.  I had a different impression right off the bat with how these strings react, which I like. Being my first Kontakt library, perhaps it is the scripting as you've mentioned.  But in the end it really it doesn't matter as long they suit their purpose well... and they so far they absolutely do!

Having bought Spotlight Strings in this sale, would it be redundant to buy the Solo Strings I or II as well?
Or are there enough differences among them?
I do have GPO 4 already.

No, it's not redundant at all. They're actually different physical instruments that were sampled and different sessions, plus the vibrato and controls are on Spotlight Strings are very different from SS1 and SS2. If I bought Spotlight Strings and could only afford one additional solo string library, I would choose SS2 because of the greater detail over SS1. Of course, if you picked up Concert Strings 2, it includes Solo Strings 2 plus string sections.
