Any suggestions for IRs I should look at? Also something I'm willing to pay for, provided they are good and not too expensive.

I just want something that produces some good, real, spaces (or at least spaces that sound real). I don't need much in the way of sound design capability or any of that, I just want some nice reverb :). The algo verbs are for when I wanna play.

Dude Ivey
You don't need Play to use Spaces. I love that reverb and its the only one I ever use.

Not an IR, but you can get pretty deep into the nuts and bolts of IKs T-Racks verbs. D/L the manual and click Advanced Controls on the GUI. One more arrow in the quiver.

Yea, you can find plenty of reverb impulses for free on the net.   If you are doing experimental stuff look at spirit canyon or Virtuosonic http://www.virtuasonic.com/

both those are good sources.

I have loads of EWQL stuff but my favorite is "Spaces", a truly beautiful convolution reverb... everything else sounds shallow to me these days... listen to any of the ewql demos of their orchestral or other stuff... it's all wrapped in "Spaces" impulses.  As a vocalist, I love how it enfolds my voice...in a word, it's "bliss"...

And, Spaces doesn't use the play engine... it's an effect...

Waves IR-1 had been good reviews
and you can usually get the IR-L for reasonable
(same reverb with less features)
and has a LOT (4.8 gb if you download all) of Impulses

IR-1 is indeed quite nice. Lots of decent IR and not very CPU intensive for an IR reverb (so they must have worked out a rather smart implementation) ... but you should wait for it to be on sale (which might be a while as it was on sale just 3 months ago)

I know that Spaces doesn't use the Play engine, however my general concern is just with East West's quality. Their programmers don't seem to be particularly good at making software that works well. Also, their management seems to be in a bit of denial about that fact. They have claimed that certain things are impossible, that are in fact not such as being able to handle fast bounces.

However after trying Spaces I decided I had to have it. It may be completely un-expandable and have a very simplistic interface, but it just sounds amazing. Hopefully it will be less problematic than Play has been for me.

I really wish East-West would just go back to producing samples and such, and you somebody else's engine like Native Instruments. They are some excellent audio engineers, that just don't have programmers that are as good.
