Hey bit:  the links to these two don't work:

That's too bad. That uad file had a few of my favorites in it. I'd post it, but I don't know about the legality of sharing IRs.

I know that Spaces doesn't use the Play engine, however my general concern is just with East West's quality. Their programmers don't seem to be particularly good at making software that works well. Also, their management seems to be in a bit of denial about that fact. They have claimed that certain things are impossible, that are in fact not such as being able to handle fast bounces.

However after trying Spaces I decided I had to have it. It may be completely un-expandable and have a very simplistic interface, but it just sounds amazing. Hopefully it will be less problematic than Play has been for me.

I really wish East-West would just go back to producing samples and such, and you somebody else's engine like Native Instruments. They are some excellent audio engineers, that just don't have programmers that are as good.

I can't argue with any of your points but, like you, once I heard it I had to have it.  They've done a bang up job obtaining the most pristine impulses I've ever heard and it's not bad on my cpu. All the presets sit well in the mix and it's just heavenly.  All my other reverbs are gathering dust.

So, bottom line? Despite all the issues with ewql, Spaces is the real deal.

You won't regret it...a good choice you made, my friend!

I linked this thread to a course I am taking for someone with the same question, and a gentleman on that thread chimed in with this one:

"this one is quite good and free:

IR Packs, http://www.resoundsound.com/4-impulse-response-reverb-packs/

Greetings"

I have not tried it yet, but wanted to add to the list.

Thanks for bringing this old thread up again. I found the Lexicon impulses I was looking for.

This one by melda was getting some thumbs up on here recently.

This has become my go-to convolution reverb.

Altiverb is the shizite... It's not cheap? But neither is anything else that's really nice.

Go big or go home.

I am too, looking for a Convolution Reverb with a nice simple GUI
I would love some with simple GUI like that, but cheaper

" not all the other Convolution Reverbs, with all the messy GUI "

EastWest Spaces , looks nice, but too expensive for me at the moment !

I would really love it, but as the OP said :

I know that Spaces doesn't use the Play engine, however my general concern is just with East West's quality. Their programmers don't seem to be particularly good at making software that works well. bad programming, is a  " NO GO " for me,
quote on the " certain thing is impossible " i guess that is a EW statement ?
LOL, well some things can actually be hard to do
but to me that is just : " we don't know " how to program it

I tried the FXpansion BFD3 demo, sounds great and i really would love it, but :
it drain's CPU and memory of my system that is result of bad programming really.

Yeah i know, too low on ram, bla, bla bla......, but that ain't the discussion here

Point is :
I have tried a lot of software, that run's smoothly on my system
If it do run on a low / mid tech system then it is :
well programmed and optimized, it will also most likely be very stable too.

Actually there is bad programmers in the big Companies too, yes it's true.

I have tried SIR 1, nice interface .....
but it seem due to the fixed latency of 8960 samples can cause trouble in the system and crash it.
It can also be Bitbridge itself ..... , had several experiences
first step is not to use 32bit plugins so you don't need to go through bit-bridge
( JUST NOW AND THEN ) the sound may hang or cause other sounds to disappear, strange !

Statement from the SIR ( SIR 2 ) webpage :
" It offers zero-latency processing with low CPU-consumption and non-destructive audio processing of impulse responses."

I have tried it, and i have experienced similar problems of the audio disappearing, like with SIR 1.

I have tried other Convolution Reverbs, they work and none of above problem's is present at all.
But then again... Too messy GUI

Plz tell if some of you could find a great cheap
simple GUI Convolution Reverb

Anyway here's some free Impulses :

the uad-140 and others:

Anyone use Liquidsonics Reverberate? It looks pretty good. I've been getting pretty good results out of Perfect space, but will usually just use CSR from IK or Valhallaroom. I'm just now getting into this convolution thing. I did download all of the stuff from http://rhythminmind.net/STN/?page_id=4188. It's always nice to have Lexicon impulses.

So I will say that I broke down and bought spaces, because they have the best impulses EVAR, and it seems to work fine with no issues. I don't have the problems I do with Play. However, I still don't like EastWest :P... but man does Spaces sound good.

Snuffle around for Waves deals. Their simple reverb is IR-L. Easy to use, sounds good, and you get like 7GB of impulses from Waves to use with it. Now the regular price is like $250, and it is pretty expensive for what you get. However, you can get it as part of bundles. Like the Native Power Pack which is $300 but comes with other stuff like a compressor, limiter, imager, and so on. Don't ask me, Waves is weird. Still expensive, but if you watch them (or get on their news letter) they do sales all the time. I got the NPP on sale for $100, which is a good deal even if all you want is IR-L.

I tried it, but decided to pass on it. It was a little more complex than I was looking for and I didn't want to mess around. Also the included impulses weren't very good. I was after real spaces, not synthetic verbs, and it doesn't really have good ones. It is better than some at doing synthetic verbs since it can use multiple impulses and modulate between them.

Oh and yes the "things are impossible" is a EastWest statement. I don't remember the precise quote but basically this was back when Play 1 had just been released. Many of us noticed it that f'd up fast bounces really bad, dropouts and so on. They said "Don't use fast bounce, use realtime bounce." We all said "Ummm, no, that takes a long time and fast bounce is more reliable since it is offline and plugins can wait on the disk, you need to support it." They said "Fast bounce support is impossible because of our scripting and timing, only realtime bounce is supported."

I lost a lot of respect for them with that... and more and more respect as time went on and their development of Play kept being crap.
