Thanks Larry, that did the trick. I had the software up to date but the sync/repair fixed the issue. Sweet! I must remember that for the next time I run into this.

I got the Mello free when it was introduced..and I like it...

I found the code on KVR - I did not sign in - it was on the front page - a banner to the right.
 
After reading all the B.S. every had to go through - I cancelled my download.
 
Personally, I refuse to use any software that requires an iLok. (I know there's a Non iLok option.)

Just wanted to share my "mello"(?) Saturday afternoon experience to give anyone else a heads up.
Had some extra time yesterday, so I thought I would download and install a couple of new libraries. Picked up a few Sampletekk instruments and found this link about the free Mello. Figured, "Why not give it a try?". Even though I have stayed away from iLok like the plague, due to the opinions of several well respected posters here. The Sampletekk stuff installed and worked well from the get go. Opened Kontakt, loaded the libraries, tested them, all was good.
I then moved on to Mello. Registered my serial number, created iLok account, activated serial number, installed iLok, transferred license, installed UVI player,  added the demo and Mello libraries (all of this went surprisingly smooth), and tried to test them. That's where the fun(translated hell) begins.
I wasn't getting any MIDI input to UVI. Hmmm, that's strange, I was getting MIDI in Kontakt 10 minutes ago.
Nothing I tried worked. None of my MIDI devices could send a signal to UVI. Closed UVI, opened Kontakt, no MIDI there either.  Opened Clockworks (MOTU MIDI control/routing software), NOTHING! And I mean NOTHING!
Turns out, the UVI/iLock/Pace install TOTALLY hosed my MOTU MIDI Express XT - USB interface.
The MOTU was sent into some bizarre state and would no longer communicate with ANYTHING. It would not even transmit MIDI in stand alone mode (disconnected from PC), so it wasn't a driver issue(entirely). The hardware was hosed. Factory reset didn't help. Power cycle nada. Multiple resets, multiple power cycles, nothing. It seemed dead. However, Windows would still recognize it, load drivers and tell me everything was working fine. It just couldn't transmit any MIDI. A minor problem. Spent the next 12 hours uninstalling, reinstalling, reverting back to older drivers, rebooting, restoring, updating, removing, repairing, well, I'm sure you get the picture. It's now 2AM and the MOTU is still not functional. Shut it all down and went to bed.
This morning I was ready to break out the CC and buy a new interface. Powered up the studio, did a system restore back to Friday. Windows found the MOTU and loaded the drivers.
Opened Clockworks and everything was working. No routes were established, but at least it was talking to the MOTU. Loaded my saved configuration file and all my routes were back. YEA! I have MIDI again.
Don't know who to blame. My old legacy MOTU Express XT USB, UVI or iLok. But you can bet I won't go near iLok again. My best guess is that iLok did a query of ALL connected USB devices looking for a dongle and the old MOTU freaked. Kind of like, "You can't talk to me like that, I'm out of here!"
Sorry for the long winded rant, I'm just trying to help stop someone else from falling down the same rabbit hole.
 
 

The iLok thing drives me nuts and I truly wish I didn't have to deal with it. That said, when I finally got Mello to work (thanks to cclarry for sorting that one out) I've been having a hill of fun!

Glad that some are getting Mello running and appreciate Cclarry for the thumbs up. The demos sound good. Don't know where the failure is, but it seems like there is a double level of strangling the end user.  UVI and I-Lock both got us by the... I gave up. I'm almost afraid to find out over the next few days what the new and improved I-Lock/PACE installation has destroyed.
 
You should still check out and install the free UVI Workstation because of the demos. Organs, Solina, string orchestra, couple pads. Teasers to get the full sound banks but really nice, and the control parameters open up many new sounds bouncing off the original preset.
 
Will never purchase anything from them no matter how good though. Even the no I-Lock option is a false front because you have to go thru I-Lock to activate it on the I-Lock end, even before UVI destroys you.
 
If you can get the thing activated and already have a physical dongle, you're ahead because can possibly migrate from one computer to another. The no I-Lock option which still requires I-Lock has you nailed into one computer only. How stingy does this get. Too many mellotrons available to worry about this mellotron.

UVI24MELLO no longer works.  I still can't find the promo. Maybe it's over.
 
Do we have something that is equal or better in our arsenal like Dimension Pro and Rapture?
iLoks and eLicensor are great if you upgrade systems, multiple machines, ect.  C/R products from IK will ask for a new authorization for the slightest change.
 
 Then there's Cakewalk products that have the "I trust you" attitude where it's simple, no questions asked. Same as Image Line and Reaper.   I just prefer to support those developers. I remember the CW surveys asking how activation is important in choosing software. To me it's a big deal.

 Plug those into a self powered USB hub and sometimes one fails to register.  Dongles protect from piracy but they don't protect from you dongles getting stolen.  People who DJ have to worry about that quite a bit.  It's when dongles are broken or missing is where the end user gets screwed more.

Yes dongles are a pain...but I also understand why, with all the hackers, crackers,
and slackers out there...so I harbor no ill will about it.  I deal with it.

Rapture and Dim Pro are awesome in their own right, especially considering their price.

You got that right about piracy control and who we have to support. I've been immoral screwed by Waves and Voyetra, pulling out their activation engines and either demanding money to reinstate or just the third finger telling me my contract is finished. They never said this up front when begging for the dollars.
Mellotrons were based on a limited sample set if though there were many versions. Limitation in the originals was the three octave or whatever it was range. You wanted to dive down for growling bass but could not. Upper ceiling of the mellotrons was less of a problem sonic wise, but still left the player wishing he could grab a couple more notes off the hi end.
There is a good group of free mellotrons, mostly synthedit origin, and can be flaky to get running, but there for the offering. Can't remember the Guru who set the standard of the samples, but most are based on his work. Search for free mellotrons, nanotron. There are several that are great.
MTron Pro is a kick ass mellotron rompler, however restricted to the original range. Costs some dollars, but worth the purchase
Wusik's EVE is a killer vsti and allows sample extrapolation above and below the limits of the original wav's. Extension above and below is entirely credible. No velocity sensitivity, but neither had the original. Pervasive sample collection across the original revisions.

Didn't mention IK's excellent Sampletron, partly because forgot, but also because was focussing just on software not requiring online activation = some remote company controlling your purchase. This said, IK probably won't go out of business in the next few months and the authorization is quite generous.
 
 
Sampletron's hi points to me anyway include notes outside the original limited range, some good effect control and layering. Layering synths internally to me is a critical issue if dealing with Sonar, which doesn't have the capacity on a single track unless you fire up EnergyXT to compensate for the shortfall. IK, Kontakt salvage the prehistoric failure.

I've used wav files, not this set specifically, to create sfz compilations using Disco DSP HighLife free version. Major sfz production tool.

Except for the IK tron, all these are free or pay for synths that don't require online activation control. As far as IK, got my keygen crack in place. Completely respect and uphold the intent of IK's license and piracy protection for what I purchased. Just don't have to worry about company controlled activation. One should check out Sampletron if there is anyone in the digital universe that doesn't already have it.
 
 
So question would be, with all the free or unencumbered, quality software available, is it vital for survival to deal with UVI's multi layered I-Lock, PACE, UVI paranoia?
 
 
I'm hoping as time evolves that musicians start to vote with their wallets, supporting the ethic of Sonar, Reaper, many many others.
 
 
Some guy here a few days ago responded to a latest and greatest plugin, and first asked what copyright protection was involved up front. Inspired by this and hope the trend continues.
