  Thanks for your comments guys!

I was not aware that you could undock the modules on O5 advanced. Alloy would seem to be a comparable choice if I wanted individual track processing, but maybe Alloy plugs-ins are not as good. The spectral graphing isn't enough for me to pull the trigger, unless it can help to pull off wonders I don't know about.

I have both Ozone 4 and 5 . I like the user interface better with Ozone 5 and IMO the interface is one of the strong points of the whole package,in the way that all of the mastering functions are integrated. I don't see a huge difference between the two though. I think some of the capability has been slightly improved but not by any significant amount.

Their marketing strategy seems unusual. Most software programs offer a much lower capable program and give you an easy upgrade to the flagship program. In the case of Ozone 5 you get a really nice program loaded with everything needed so that you don't really see  the need for a huge upgrade price to get only a few more things...almost seems backwards to me.

FWIW a recent update of Ozone 5 took care of the cpu issues. I noticed a big difference after I loaded the patch.

No, I've not experienced that. What do you have Ozone's buffer size set to?

there's a buffer for ozone?

I guess it's at whatever the default is!  I didn't realize there was one I could change.  obviously this means I didn't RTFM very thoroughly.

The best feature of Advanced is that you can use each of Ozone's processors as separate plugins. This could have been a selling point for me, as I often use Ozone on individual tracks just for its exciter or just for its limiter or just for its multiband compressor. Had this been a feature of the standard edition, I'd have bought the upgrade.

But since separate DLLs was not an option in the standard edition, the only potential selling point there was the new auto-release algorithm. But when I demoed it, I could not discern much difference between it and the existing Intelligent II algorithm, and the CPU hit was huge. So I passed on the upgrade altogether. Ozone 4 still does what I want and does it really, really well.

Ozone 4 does what I want and does it really well also.  BUT - have you had any problems with "motorboating" with Ozone 4?  sometimes Ozone will "freak out" and cause motorboating in sonar.  I can close the project and re-open the project (don't have to close sonar) and it will resolve itself.  or if I delete ozone it will stop, but even if I delete it and put it back it in it won't resolve the issue.  it comes back with it usually.  so I have to close the project and reopen the project and it's fine.

IF O5 wouldn't do that in sonar I'd pay the $99 for the upgrade, but that's the only thing worth it to me.

Never had that Beagle, the only thing what happens is when I have multiple projects open with Ozone on it, if I'm trying to open it, it's just grey?

Beagle: yup, there are at least 5 configurable buffers within Ozone that I can think of.

The most important one is on the EQ/Reverb/XOver tab of the Options dialog. It's labeled "Buffer size" (so as not to be overly cryptic). This should be set no lower than your ASIO buffer size, and preferably higher. You can set it right up to the maximum, which IIRC is 8192. I keep mine at 4096 (my usual ASIO size for mixing is 2048).

[P.S. upping the buffer has the added benefit of significantly lowering the CPU hit with Ozone.]

thanks Bit.  I've been playing around with the buffers tonite.

alex - I've seen that before as well.

Audiodeluxe.com offers an upgrade for owners of Ozone 5 to Ozone 5 advanced for $349.00!  I am mightily tempted, even though I have both alloy 2 and ozone 5, love them, but probably only use about 35% of their features at that.
Still, I might go for it, because at that price it does seem to offer a lot more, albeit with a steep learning curve.

I downloaded the demo of Ozone 5 Advanced back when it first hit the market. The demo has long since expired so I haven't used it quite some time.

There were some key differences between Ozone 5 and Ozone 5 Advanced that I said to myself I couldn't live without. Not talking about the meters and graphs and all that, but there was something else. Can't remember now.

Ok thanks for that
