The kicks use a "normal" pedal and beater (that's usable on any "real" drum set), but there's a small black part that goes behind the pedal that consists of a pad (for the beater to hit) and a connector so you can route it to the V-Drum brains.  You need to put the beaters in a little different so that the pedal range is correct.

As for cleaning, do NOT use ArmorAll or anything like it (the guys on the V-Drum forum were pretty insistent about that).  The thing to use is something called "303 Aerospace Protectant" which is easily available online.  Nothing else is recommended except using a damp cloth.  The mesh heads however, have a couple of tried-and-true cleaning methods.  You can actually take them off and put them in your dishwasher (on a gentle cycle) or carefully put them into a sink filled with warm water and a very mild detergent.

Sooo... they are like not making contact with anything? Not sure I understand. Guess I should just check your list for the part name. Currently I am using that danged expression pedal which kind of works but it's really weird. To get the best results I've turned it backwards and am hitting it with my heel instead of the front of my foot and it is full velocity or nothin'. Also double triggers like a prazzick which is annoying.

Thanks for the info on the proper cleaning/polishing agent. I know Armorall can... well for certain things be not so good... thus my query.

Neat thread. V-Stuff is cool. I want to talk an associate of mine into purchasing a V-Accordian. Those things are NUTS!

Beeps,

this is similar to the one I added to my set that already had a pedal and pad.

Except mine has a straight beater bar.

Aaaahhhh okay. That makes a heckuva a lot more sense. I was envisioning something really... well, stupid.

If they make those standalone so I could just USB it or even MIDI DIN the bugger it would make my pK about a million times more usable.

Two would be even more awesomelicious. They probably need a brain though. Will look into it. Thanks.
