Guitarist Poll.

All the Strats I've purchased have tremelos that work very well. I know how to set them and the guitar up.
I haven't bought a guitar with another type of tremelo.
I haven't built a guitar with a tremelo.

how do you put one of those on a keyboard?

That's easy, Beagle.  You just let an upright piano go out of tune over a period of 20+ years.  It's the same effect.

interesting thing, guthrie govan's new sig model charvel, has an old school floyd rose bridge..

like the original, with NO fine tuners...

but no locking nut..... just locking tuners.

the only reason i could see for having a bridge WITHOUT the fine tuners, would be if the strings were pre-stretched and would not lengthen from the use of the trem..
and even then, the idea that the string should slip thru the nut with the right setup, kinda negates the downside of no fine tuners...

i use Kahler trems, and have for 30 years, have soldered the ball end of the string, from the first twist all the way up to just short of the bridge saddles, and this keeps my guitars in almost perfect tune (relative to compensated) with heavy bar use

I have always wanted to try a Floyd Rose as I understoood they were about the best. I have a Wilkinson on my one strat copy and my JTV has a pretty decent trem. on it, probably comparible to a Floyd Rose. I got into the guitar thing later and so theres a lot I don't know.

I don't like a guitar without the tremelo though. The main reason I recently took a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser back was because it didn't have one on it and I realized I use it quite often on some things. I don't do serious dives with it. I mainly like to have it close so I can use it for small changes. The most annoying thing is that if the bar is too loose it falls limp and away from a fast reach and then it's pretty much usless to me. I like to have it set so that it's always close.

Starise,
I modified my Floyd Rose Edge arms - maybe you can mod yours. I bought from StewMac the version of the trem arm that hast the outer threaded housing (something like this http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Electric_guitar_tremolo_parts/Floyd_Rose_tremolos_and_parts/Tremolo_Arm_for_Floyd_Rose.html). I then removed the "plug" component in the trem (required removing from the guitar) and replaced with the threaded receiver. I did have to hacksaw down this part by about a half an inch. I never liked the original arm as it had the little plastic grommet that would wear out and cause the arm to swing freely...

James that looks like a great solution to my problem ( well one of them anyway). Thanks for that info.
