...throw my old DAT unit onto the recycling heap. It's been sitting unused in my basement for close to 20 years but it still looks mahvelous. (That's one thing you have to say about old stereo/studio components- they looked so much cooler than contemporary electronics.) So, anyways, I "re-purposed" it:

What do you think? Could be a market for these mods.

I just used some wood and hardware that I had laying around the workshop. I wanted to make it light up when you pushed the buttons but it looked like a lot of work to get that deeply into it.

Not sure where I'm going to use it. I told my wife it would be a great place to hide jewelry.

Cool.  I'm not sure that would be the place to hide jewelry, though.  A thief might steal the expensive looking electronics and get the jewels instead.

Good point. But I figure if it doesn't have an apple on it, a thief wouldn't see it as worth stealing.

Thanks, Dave.

I thought some of the guys here would get a kick out of it. I'm sure they have old equipment that's unfortunately just lying around waiting to be tossed. At least this gets a little more use out of one piece.

That is an awesome idea! If I had any skills for manual labor, I think I'd start shopping around for a few of those and recycle them as you did.
