Then when you finally get inside, the battery's flat.
 
So, you pop the bonnet (hood) to charge the battery and the cable snaps.
 
Then you lie in the footwell in -18 degrees trying to get a hold of 1/2'' of cable with a pair of pliers.
 
 
So glad to get rid of that van.

when it's that cold outside don't ever try to  spit on your hand and try to warm up your pecker

Somehow, the colorful verbage in invisible bold font is quite clear in those spaces between the lines

What's wrong with using invisible bold font?

• Stand on an L platform in Chicago waiting for a train that will not come
• Live in an unheated trailer (actually, that's a good lesson to learn in general)
• Trust that the used bread wrappers you've wrapped your feet in will keep you warm (didn't have warm boots that year)
• Shove the dogs out of the bed when the blankets are frozen solid (that lesson was actually pretty intuitive)
• Attempt to use a flashlight as a space heater (all it does is enable you to see your despair freeze in mid-air)

 
There are probably more, but cognitive functions slow as you approach absolute zero.
 

Don't hold the rope swing in your teeth while standing on a slippery tree branch, rubbing your hands together to warm them.
