The Maillard Reaction
I bought my wife an Ibanez Mikro Bass and I have found that I love it. It sounds great and it is loads of fun to play. I also have a custom, graphite neck P-Bass that I consider my primary bass and the Mikro compares very favorably to it.

I hope you enjoy the software.

best regards,
mike

Good Luck with your Adventure Noisy Neighbour! I'm sure everything will work out well for you and It would be hard to beat a VSTi like Trilian with the sound sets installed on a separate drive.

Also, I think you will find that Spectrasonics is one of the leading companies that provide excellent support and service. I own their entire line and have always received the highest level of support from them. They care about their Customers.

Kind regards,
Rick

...I've been looking around on the internet for some alternatives in the meantime. Trilian is the most sophisticated it seems. I guess I have to think that way : What are my actual needs? Basically It started all with looking for a simple bass solution. I use NI Scarbee Precision Bass or various synth basses that come with the stock synths (Zeta, Dim Pro..ect) and (please don't laugh...or do so hahaha) an Ibanez Mikro shortscale bass since I don't really have bass player hands. That one sounds the most realistic but cheap of course.
If I get over the fear of the installation (adding an extra drive seems to be necessary...) I think I'll go for the adventure.
All your comments really helped to a desicion (...or made it even harder...? I'll know by the end of next week)
Thnx guys!

Trilian does exactly what it says on the tin and more and is worth every penny in my opinion. There's a good reason that you don't see it discounted very often - they don't need to. If you like what you see in the official demo videos, you won't be disappointed and spectrasonics customer support is absolutely first rate in my experience. Not sure why you "fear" the installation, it's no diffferent to installing anything else, just a bit larger / longer.  Looking at your pc spec, I'm surprised that you only have the one HD, but I do agree with the collective wisdom of installing the samples ( of this and other big libraries) to a seperate drive. Also saves you having to re-install it all in the event of an OS drive failure/upgrade.

Trilian is great. I learned to use it with ease after I went through the Groove 3 tutorial on it a couple times, and also after watching the Spectrasonics demos on Trilian available on YouTube. The demos are ear opening, and the Groove 3 tutorial is excellent for understanding the how to.

Trilian is fantastic. It'll take you a while to grasp just how immense and versatile it is, and the samples sound great. I find I have to HPF them a little more aggressively than most bass libraries though, don't know if anyone else has experienced that. I guess this means there is "more bass" to start off if you want it. One thing to remember is that if you're not using all of the articulations, you can load a "lite" version of the samples which uses considerably less memory. I find myself doing this most of the time.

But as others have said, check out the Groove3 tutorial by Eli Krantzberg. It's a fantastic course and will really unlock the power of Trilian for you. I was stumbling around in the dark until I watched it (although there are also lots of videos on the Spectrasonics site as well).

since I don't really have bass player hands.

OK, that is about the funniest thing I've ever read about bass.

Have you ever seen the size of Jack Bruce's hands? His fingers must be .75" long. Seriously he has hands half the size of mine. But I'm less than half the player he is.

...it's more the installation of the libaries to a seperate drive. I never bothered with it until now, but I will have to get into that territory sooner or later anyway. Some catching up to do here. Actually it should be rather easy to choose the directory where the sound libaries go during the install process...
