Will Trillian make my Alembic sound better?

since I don't really have bass player hands.

OK, that is about the funniest thing I've ever read about bass.

Have you ever seen the size of Jack Bruce's hands? His fingers must be .75" long. Seriously he has hands half the size of mine. But I'm less than half the player he is.

I'm glad to hear you're amused : ) ...but it's true, I tried long scale and a short scale basses. Short scale agreed with my fingers instantly. It's just very hard to find really good ones for a reasonable price.

Can't say I've ever heard one. I'm guessing it probably would though.  After all, if they were any good everyone would have one, no ?

It is, NN. It's standard fare nowadays.

I am remiss in not mentioning Greg at Orange Tree Samples... He has several beautiful bass sample libraries...is a one man shop and a joy to know/correspond with.  If it is just Bass you're looking for, check out Greg's site....http://www.orangetreesamp...ct=viewCat&catId=1

Much more of a solo genius like Kirk Hunter, Greg gives a lot for your money.  Just had a big sale but if you mention one of the loyal sonar forum members turned you on to him, he will more than likely give you a deal... He's done this for me...

you're not dealing with a mega super company... (sorry Spectrasonics... I got ur stuff but ur not really one on one these days!) but a bonifide human being... like me and you... who answers you honestly, respectfully, and... oh, you know... that **** we don't get no more!

I have a few bass libraries.

All the NI Scarbee Fender/Musicman, OTS Rick.

TBH what I use them for is when I'm doing a cover, I sometimes get a MIDI of the cover and use the bass MIDI to drive my limited libraries to see which bass I'll use when I retrack my live bass. Since I have the Variax Line 6 bass that cover just about everything in my libraries plus a few I don't have.

If using the libraries doesn't lead me in the right direction then I start playing around with my basses.

Mind you, I don't generally like to cover my bass part with the exact replica of the song being covered. I like to tray and give it a more "modern" sound and flavor without straying too far afield.

Noisy Neighbor - I have Trillian and like all my VSTi which have large libraries, installed on a separate disc - get a big, quick disc.
One thing, install the new disc BEFORE installation of any Spectrasonics program as it can be an issue to move them afterwards.
I had Trilogy before Trillian - I thought Trilogy was good - Trillian Brilliant.

Bapu - I see you have a Variax Bass - is this any good? I have a selection of Bass Guitars which I feel give me a good choice - My  main Basses are a Vigier Active, Musicmaster Stingray, an Epiphone Allen Woody, a Burns Nu Sonic from the 60's,  an old Acoustic Bass and an old Vox from the 1980's which I love, although it weighs about the same as my car!
I use a Variax Acoustic when writing - to get things to fit and help make a decision on what type of acoustic to use when I record the track properly - it would be great to do the same with a Variax Acoustic if its any good.
Cheers
Nigel

The Rick in the Variax is passable.

The Hofner ain't bad. The Gibsons are pretty good. Since I have a P-Bass, I won't use that model but I sometimes use the Jazz. The upright is cool but I've only used it once. Of course the Alembic is not as good as the real thing .

If you find one snag it. I got one just before they were discontinued at a steal (and since it was a Christmas gift it really was a steal so to speak).

The Maillard Reaction
I think I could have some fun with that MIDI bass I linked to above. It seems like it could be fun to drive some synth bass stuff with it.

I have been enjoying the tiny little Volca Bass analog synth I got last November. It's fun to turn the knobs and warp the tone.

I also noticed that the Moog Little Fatty has been on sale lately... I'm on a microphone kick, or I'd have one on order.

At some point I decided, that for myself, a regular old bass guitar was the quickest and most effective way to get the sound of a bass guitar down in a song.

I can get it done with just about any preamp but I do have some personal favorites. I also have a couple bass amps that make it really, really fun to play bass, but the preamps make it super easy to get a nice recording.

I also have the "must have" DOD FX 25B envelope filter pedal and a Electro Harmonix Micro Synth pedal that augment the bass guitar and make it sound synthy.

best regards,
mike
