Sylenth1 - it's depicted on cave drawings.

This is the one I read quite a bit of complaints about with regard to no x64 bit version.

While I've never understood Sylenth1's appeal (it's sound just doesn't do it for me), this is definitely one of the most popular soft-synths out there.  The number of third party preset banks for this thing is obscene, and by my estimation, unrivaled.

Not only has it's x64 bit update been a long time coming, but the developer has pretty much disappeared from their support forum at KVR (although, to be fair, he does answer support emails...except for the "when will Sylenth1 be 64 bit?" question).

From what I've seen in discussion groups, Sylenth is also one of the most pirated soft synths too. I've seen references to many top-selling/popular "producers" and dj's using a pirated copy of Sylenth on videos about their work.
Here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfCmoEixxro

What's the incentive to update when your product is so popular yet not selling?

disclaimer: I don't use Sylenth so I'm not included in that cast of characters!

Sylenth is popular because you can play the back catalogue of dance music with it and some of the preset packs are brilliant at doing that.

On piracy, just enter any soft synth in google and look how many pirate sites come up and then look at the download numbers. The numbers are huge. Most people don't steal because of fear of being caught and not because of their morals. That's not a problem on the net. Check out some of the TV, film and music stats too. It's millions and millions.

Best not get into pirating stuff as those threads make SampleTank discussions look fluffy pillow fights on a sleepover.

Certainly, Rapture and Dimension Pro should be on this list.

Rapture needs a mac installation workaround depending on the O/S version and apparently, all they'd have to do to make it is work is to make a very minor change to the installer and it would work great. So far, they've refused to do so.

I dunno about Rapture because I don't use it but Dimension Pro for sure. I won't buy samples for it because of its lack of support. I mean it works on my system, but I have real worries as for how long. Given the total lack of information about it and lack of updates, even minor bug fixes, I worry that it'll just languish. So I buy samples for Kontakt, even if the Dimension version is cheaper.

interesting topic... made me think.

Of the bunch discussed here I have Toontrack Superior Drummer V2 and AAS Tassman V4. Both are x64, so as far as I'm concerned I don't need anything more. There are no glaring bugs in either, and only a handful of minor "gee I wish I could..." moments.

No upgrades means more cash for other stuff<G>!

ACID by far - takes the cake for the 'left-to-rot' category.

It's a damn good product. I really like it's interface, and it's counterpart in Vegas - so much so I started wailing when they started mucking it up there.

For me, ACID looks like a FREE software.  It's interface looks like Audacity, etc.  THAT doesn't effect
the usability of the product, that's for sure, it just doesn't have "Curb Appeal" LOL

Acid has a much better interface than Audacity.  No, it is nowhere near as slick as the top Daws, but it is pretty much the same interface as Vegas.  From a looks point, I think Rapture looks the most similar out the box.  I don't think it looks so much like freeware but just absolutely dated.  When you think about it, the core look and features from all of Sonys media products ceome from Sonic Foundry software originally meant to run on windows 95.  The core effects, except for whatever third party ones have remained static.  Even the interface has only seen minor changes.

I like Sony's interface, it is more business, less flash. Most audio software, Sonar included, is a bit obsessed with being flashy and trying to look like actual gear. Sony's stuff is made to present the information well on a computer screen and be easy to use and read. Ya, it looks kind of like an office app... because those do a good job of that.

I'm a big fan of Sound Forge and Vegas. ACID's only problem is that it hasn't been updated feature wise, looks wise I like it too.

Superior Drummer 2 - Original Release date:  06/2008  6 years since an upgrade...there have been "point" updates...
FAR TOO LONG.

Didn't SD2 go 64bit a couple of years ago?  Also, not sure what kind of upgrade one would like/expect in SD2.  Perhaps a tape sim?  What are you looking for from SD?  Just curious.

For me; movable/re-arrangeable tracks & buses in the mixer section

Amen to that! It's great they provide so many busses, but who has ever used them all? Let me hide the unused ones.

And while we're at it, how about remembering the last mixer view so it comes up that way automatically when I re-open a project?

Also on the wish list: an integrated distortion plugin, the ability to type in values into the effects plugins, global bleed mute and effects bypass buttons.

Other than that, it's perfect.
