Ozone makes it easy for a non-expert like me and I just couldn't get the same results (easily) by using individual plugins. Know your limits, as they say! :)

I tried Ozone and really liked it...

One day...LOL

T-Racks has been my "Mastering" processor.

I use T-racks too. I'm unlikely to win 'mastering engineer of the year' award. I'm in for the 'It sounds better than before' award though.

I've been quite pleased with it...

Even though I have come to despise the iK business model...
Their plugs are nice...

If they'd pull their head out their iArse they'd be doing themselves a favor
and do a lot better IMHO...

I agree 100% and talked about it on another thread. Their business practices/licensing/web site detract from all the positive discussions of their stuff. Just like it did on this thread! :)

PS: Their SSL Bus Comp is awesome on drums!

FG-X is my go to mastering tool for hard rock to metal. It truly shines for that.

For anything leaning towards jazz, folk or acoustic I go with Ozone 5.

Bapu,

What are tools are you using for mastering hard rock? Ozone is doing EQ, reverb, multi-band compression - etc. The Slate is really just the compression (single band) and limiting, so I'm curious to learn more from you...

James,

It can vary depending on the project. But in fact I try to get it right before the master bus so that I don't have to do too much there.

I'm curious why you say Slate is just compression and limiting. What about the two "EQ" knobs and the Dynamics knob. They can be your overall friends too.

Like our strikinglyhandsome1, I'll not win mastering engineer of the day (let alone year). So probably big M Mastering is not what I do, I'd call it little m mastering.

You know, I watched the training videos but they were very vague on the EQ and Dynamics - perhaps they can affect the sound more than I give them credit. Will revisit, thanks!
