Like many other things, it depends on how it's used.

I started skipping forward at 1:31. I guess that's my answer.

I suppose it is music to have on in the background, or maybe to meditate to.

Would this type of thing win awards or recognition, certainly the posts below the youtube vid are very complimentary.

I didn't listen to the music long enough and neither am I expert enough to say either way if it is award worthy, but I would say that the average YT comment is probably nothing more than a reflection of the person who makes it if you know what I mean. ;)

If you're in the mood for it, it's wonderful. Same as any music really.

This is in fact my kind of music, although this particular piece is a bit boring. It is using the unique abilities of computer generated music (sustain not dependent on how long you can blow into a tube or how long a plucked string will continue to vibrate without losing energy), effects that are not obtainable in the universe of string and wood, and a near total avoidance of pounding on dead animal hides. I personally have not given up entirely on melody however, I just find that repeating it a half dozen times in a short piece with no change is unimaginative.

It IS called "Ambient" for a reason and Eno has, what?, 50+ albums?  (I've got 16 from him.)  Plus he's been part of several other successful efforts usually helping with sound textures.

I clicked on that link above then went back to work.  It was almost an hour later before I realized it was still playing.  I like that.

Quite true. This is mindset music, and would be wonderful to draw to. Most songs are far too short for that, and I would probably be in total immersion long after the casual listener got bored with it.

It can br any of the above depending upon situation one is listening to it in.  It would make for horrible music to dance or workout to but great for meditating or at a spa.
