Hmm...I wonder what happened to the comments I posted yesterday?  Well, I'll try again...

Phil:  Thank you. It actually isn't that difficult to play or I wouldn't have been able to play it.  :)  Thanks for the kudos!

Thanks James.  Yeah, he gets inventive with his chord changes, that's for sure.

Robby, you shouldn't have.  :)  You may have heard this if you watched the video...but this is better quality audio for sure.

Thanks Bruce.  Yeah, Ivory's got a great sound, huh?  :)

Thank you, Bob.  Yes, we had a good 4th.  I hope you did too.  Thanks for stopping by. :)

Thank you, Chas.

Thanks, Vicente.  Yeah, it's much more fun to play along with drums.  I should remember that if I attempt another piece. :)

Thanks Larry.  :)  Yeah, he's a good writer for sure.  No, they didn't quite fall off, but they do hurt enough that I can't practice much more than 20 minutes a day on a piece like this.  That could be why it takes me so long to memorize it.  Yeah, that's it...it's not my age or any other deficiency.  lol

Hi Janet,

What a great song and fantastic playing!

It's fun to play along with a drum track, huh? At least it sounds like you're having fun

Thanks Gary.  Yes, it certainly is fun.  I should try it more often. :)

Hi Janet,

The performance is great.

The mix has some issues that should be easy to address. The mix feels really compressed to me.   Some of it could be the byproduct of MP3 encoding, I'm not sure. But if you are compressing/limiting the master bus I'd suggest going easier and/or softer.

The kick drum dominates the mix too much, particularly at the beginning.  It feels really heavy, especially for a nice, light piece like this.  Is it possible to use a softer/rounder kick sample?

Is there a bass guitar part here as well?  Even with my system I can't quite pick it out.  If there is a bass part it should come up in volume...to about the volume of where the kick drum is at now.

I enjoyed that very much.

J

Thanks so much, Jonas.  I was wondering about any mix issues.  For starters, I downloaded the bass/drums track from Jon's website.  So, I can't do anything about the kick or the bass.  I don't hear the bass either, unless I'm not playing the piano. I should write him about it and see if he knows about the issue. :)

But, I could certainly pull back on the compressor.  I wonder if I could make the kick drum sound better with some eq?

Thanks again for stopping by and for the ideas! :)

Really nice playing, Janet, forceful, not too swingy, in the pocket.  Mix-wise, the piano is wider than the drums--the drums sound like they're inside that great big Ivory sample set.

Thanks so much!   Well, the drums are an mp3 I downloaded from Jon S., who wrote the song.  Jonas worked on the track and sent it to me last night, so I'll remix that and upload it again as soon as I get a chance.  But wow--what good ears you have! :)  Thanks again.
