She worked for RCA in the manufacturing facility in NJ from the 50’s till the 80’s and didn’t know the first thing about electronics.  I suspect she worked on the manufacturing line in some sort of QC capacity.  When we accessed the storage shed several years ago, I told my wife to look for tubes (my wife thought I was crazy … but people bring things home from work).  Sure enough, a fairly large box of tubes.
 
As far as I could tell, the tubes came directly off of the production line, as many of them had technical data hand written on them (in grease pencil or something), and the collection ran the entire gamut in terms of production dates from the 50’s to the 80’s.  At the time, I borrowed a tube tester from a friend of mine and every tube I sampled tested as it was supposed to according to the literature (unfortunately, except for the few that I destroyed while learning how to use the tube tester).
