I like the blue plugs but I'll need the old kind when I use it as an upgrade for my iRig Mic HD.

OK, seriously, this Slate offering seems too low cost for the mid to upper end studios who probably have a decent mi locker and too high priced for the hobbyists who probably can't really tell the difference between a Blue mic and a Neuman.
 
On another note (see wot I dun there?) how will the mics and preamp hold their pristine crystal clear character over the years? I'm worried that in 5 years the circuitry and the mechanics will decompose so that this heap will ONLY sound like a SM57.

I'm guessing he just looked at the minimum advertised price of a Kemper and thought "there's a sucker born every minute".
 
Keep in mind, it is not about how much it costs. The appeal is all about how much you save.
