The Maillard Reaction
I was gonna say "but you guys don't live near L.A." but one of you does.

All this thing needs to gather momentum is a few endorsements from a few "producers". A couple quotes like "I was vacationing in Maui so I had the band sing over skype straight out of my iPad iLoud mobile rig into the microphone then I dialed in the famous maker 51 and it sounded  just like, maybe better than, the best 51 I ever used at SAE."...

Then a few reviewers will write something like 1000 words that summarize as "I sang in to it and sound came out of my BeyerDynamic T1s... what could be better?"...

Follow up with a skeptic that seems critical so that all the folks that rarely work with good mics (hint: the $3200 Neumann U87 is not a benchmark... which is why it will not be available until the expansion packs come out) can say "that guy's always been a pompous close minded mick"...

and this thing will sell enough units to help several Chinese factory workers buy a new scooter.

What could be better?

OK, seriously, this Slate offering seems too low cost for the mid to upper end studios who probably have a decent mi locker and too high priced for the hobbyists who probably can't really tell the difference between a Blue mic and a Neuman.

On another note (see wot I dun there?) how will the mics and preamp hold their pristine crystal clear character over the years? I'm worried that in 5 years the circuitry and the mechanics will decompose so that this heap will ONLY sound like a SM57.

thers a big fuss at KVR about "clean" and corrected demos and is a Neuman clean or coloured .. blah blah ...
