There is not even a comparison...if you get Komplete on sale....even 20% off (399) grab it...
There's a HOLLATTA goodness in Komplete....

Ya I gotta say I bought Komplete at $500 and I am happy with the value. It has a fair bit of Krap that I don't use, but it has tons of good stuff. The pianos are amazing, for example.

With regards to pricing stuff, I'm also note impressed by companies trying to pretend like people are getting a big deal because software costs less today. They aren't doing it to be nice, it is marketing, and smart at that. Back in the day, not many people could afford what you needed to do music production. It took some heavy hitting hardware. So didn't matter how cheap your software was, only so many copies you could sell since only so many people had the setup for it. Less unit sales means they need to cost more to cover production costs.

Well that's no longer the case. Pretty much anyone can easy get the gear to do music production, and so lots of people are. You see home production all over. However, you need a lower price point to hit that market. You drop a $5000 sample pack, you aren't likely to see many sales outside of pro studios and composers. However you release the same thing for $199 and not only will you sell to lots of smaller musicians, but you'll even get morons like me buying it, who just play with the stuff and don't actually make anything.

The mass market is where the real money is. You'd much rather sell a million units for a hundred bucks than one unit for a million bucks, particularly with software where your unit cost is next to nothing.

Also if Steam has taught companies anything, and it has, it is that if you put your software up with a reasonable price normally and then put it on a deep sale a few times a year, you'll vacuum money out of peoples' pockets as they are unable to resist the "deals".

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not mad about this, it is great for consumers, but let's not buy in to the "Oh we are being so nice by charging less," marketing.

Ha...  No release date as yet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm4hf-Ki0V4&feature=youtu.be&a

The 64 million dollar question is asked at 1:24.

So today (well yesterday) was NOT the day!!!
Sounded very vague re a release date but a release does not sound imminent.

No doubt in the time it takes them to getting  around to releasing SampleTank 3  they will have released quite a bit more i - nonsense.
Whilst I have no issue whatsoever with a company going the iCrap route, I think the time it has taken to get this out shows where their priorities lay. (I do not use the term iCrap in a derogatory way, just as a term I think most people can identify with)
So for me this causes me concerns.
I have already been burnt with Software Companies pulling the plug on products I have heavily invested in - such as Kore / Powercore / Muse (gigasampler) just to name a few.
If a manufacturer of a hardware product drops the product / goes bust - you STILL have and can use the product. And basically unless you are extremely unlucky, you can get it repaired if it goes wrong. Since I took the decision to pull back on my software and invest a little more money in old hardware, I have got quite a few "non working" old synths that have all been repairable and which I now have for as long as I can use them!
Software can become redundant almost overnight if an operating system changes etc as we all know.

So lets assume IK actually do manage to release SampleTank 3 one day.
1) Do I invest money in this product knowing development of this type of product must be very secondary to what must have become their main market, namely iCrap
2) What happens if they overprice SampleTank3 and sales are poor - which seem very likely - will they persevere or just drop it?
3) I have an old 32 bit machine which I run SampleTank 2 and all my extension libraries on, linked to my main machine via Vienna Pro. Works perfectly, so I think at this stage for me, unless the upgrade was very competitively priced i.e. under about $50 / $60 maximum, I would just leave my set up as it is
4) I would also be a little bit concerned with regard to the compatibility of the expansion packs, especially the third party ones on SampleTank 3
5) I upgrade at launch price, and they persevere even though sales might not be stella - do I find in twelve months time, they are onto their 3rd unrepeatable Group buy and and SampleTank 3 is now being basically given away, so my investment becomes worthless.

Watching that video did not give me much confidence that SampleTank 3 will even approach the standard of their competition, so taking all my concerns as listed above in consideration, I VERY VERY much doubt I shall even upgrade, almost no matter what the cost.

In keeping with IK's record we had:

4 Years ago:  SampleTank 3 coming soon!
2 Years ago:  SampleTank 3 is under way!
Last year:      SampleTank 3 will be out before the end of the year!
Dec. Last Year:  SampleTank 3 will be shown at NAMM (assumed release)
NAMM 2014:  SampleTank 3 will be out in March-April (maybe)

Seriously folks....WHO WANTS TO DO BUSINESS WITH SUCH A COMPANY?

Are we that much of Plugin W H O R E S that we will allow these companies to lie
REPEATEDLY, steal our money, and then charge us for the privilege?

WOW...astounding...and of course, those who just bought in and got everything for nothing
will say  YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

Nigel hit the nail on the head.  IK has moved it's focus to iCrapps...end of story...bye bye...
and by that I mean REALLY ....BYE BYE!!!

DERH....
