to shovel snow.

It was -34F.

Before long I couldn't see a thing so I went back in.

Here's why:

Not only that but my eyes started tearing up large amounts of water which froze as it tried to drip off my face.

If I had fur on my face I would've looked like this:

... Santa and the reindeer... ?

Isn't he some kind of mythical childhood creature? I heard about him once but I don't really believe he exists. Probably just another bedtime story character like the tooth fairy or sasquatch or little gray aliens or...

Man, does that bring back memories. Sub-zero temps are not uncommon in Denver, but one Winter ('89, maybe '90) we got down to -25 and stayed there for two weeks. The weird thing is that it's deceptively not really that uncomfortable. Yes, the air has a decided bite to it, and your breath condenses on your beard, and in your nose.
A scarf is a wonderful thing. And yes, glasses are an experience.
We were dressed for it, and as long as you were working and generating heat, it wasn't too bad.
But we has to be careful, because the last thing you want to do is start to sweat. You can go hypothermic pretty quick. I hate those wave shivers as your body ejects the deep chill.
I gotta stop. I'm getting cold just thinking about it.

Looks like your glass cracked!  I have never experienced that kind of cold.

I have never been in air that cold. I once worked in freezers that got down to- 20 below. No where near -34. I don't think I would be going outside very much. Brrrrrrr.

I was recently reading about Mars where the average temperature is -60 on a good day and people are signing on to be the first colonists in the near future. No trees and carbon dioxide for atmosphere.... no return trip. Oh well, to each his own.
