Things may have changed, but when I had a UX2, if I unplugged it to use my delta card, line 6 Pod farm did not function. If I recall correctly some of Gear box did but was very limited. Same now with the ilock version, it works as long as the ilock is connected.

Just so you know, I was pretty impressed with their support when I contacted them last year and I'm sure you would get a definitive answer from them. I have serious doubts there is a native version that is not protected by either ilock or their hardware, but perhaps they came to their senses and realized limiting their customers to folks that have certain pieces of hardware is really self defeating, but I doubt they see it that way.

My take was that you could use any USB interface as long as it was still dongled by Line6 hardware or the iLok version. Just wondered if anyone had used it with another USB device with neither of those attached?

Strike, I doubt this would work (fully) as the licensing is locked into one of the two. Of note, PF2.5 did work without my Toneport being plugged in, but it was severely limited (Standalone mode). I read somewhere that when used as a plugin, all the features were available......haven't tried it as a plugin yet.

Right now I'm on the SP campaign and practicing the air, sea and land vehicles in the test range.  I think I will be going online multi with it, a lot of my friends play it online on Xbox and playstation, they all assure me I really haven't played it until I've played the multi. I also went for "Need for Speed Gear" and will be getting Crysis 3 soon.

Also picked up 2 "Air Conflicts" games from Steam over the holidays and loving them.

Don't be surprised if you find me joining one of your battles sometime.  My login on both is ohgrant but for a while deadmeat might be a more suitable handle. :) See you there sometime.

I also could easily use "deadmeat" as login......most games take me awhile to get used to all the controls, but I do like a good fight and don't ever give up easily. My login name is Meshodman for both and I'm also just playing SP (so far).......I got COD (not Ghost....can't remember which, but an earlier one) for Christmas, but haven't installed it yet.

The only game I play online is TF2 (which I'm hooked). At first, it looked a bit "cartoony", but after I learned to use the skills of my fav character (Soldier), IT WAS ON!!!........There are still another 8+ characters I haven't played enough to do well, but the Soldier gets to blow up stuff and do a lot of dammage. :) You should join me in TF2.....it's free and a very good one....IMO.

Cool, I'll have to give that TF2 a try

Isn't the licensing now locked into the License manager rather than the device? Reading around complicates it even more! As I said it would be good to get a definitive answer. Is there anyone out there using another USB device with no iLok or Line6 hardware attached and getting the full programme to work in standalone and VST plug-in?

Nope.

Before I had my auth code for iLock I downloaded the latest version (this was two weeks ago). My RME UFX is running ASIO vis USB. I was told by POD FARM 2.5 it was not authorized. SONAR VST scan found it but it was unusable. Once I loaded the auth into my iLok it worked.

I take the wording to mean you can drive POD FARM 2.5 with any USB audio interface but that DOES NOT preclude the need for the (Line 6) authorizing device to be present.

BTW, my son in law is an engineer at Line 6 and that is how he described it to be before I acquired POD FARM 2.5 Platinum.

I mean can you just use a 3rd party interface. Let's assume it was authorised using line6 hardware or iLok. I'll write to them today and tell them to drop the 'any 3rd party' literature as it's not the case. It's not independent if it needs some line6 item attached.

SH1 - I assume you mean auth'd but the auth'd device is not plugged in?

No software that I know of that is auth'd to a device (be it iLok, USB dongle or hardware) would ever operate WITHOUT that device attached to the computer.

Aren't these contradicting questions?

It's independent for the "input" driver.

I believe there was a time when you could ONLY get a POD FARM tone to be generated by plugging in your guitar (or bass) into a Line 6 device. But of course iLok changed that. AFAIK you cannot plug a geeter in to an iLok.
