The newest patch has improved performance in XP. I was still unable to freeze a track or have fast bounce checked during bounce.
Play working great in win 7 64 but haven't had the need to freeze or bounce yet

Play 3 works fine on my systems.

I've read a few horror stories about Play 4 so I won't be upgrading

Well I personally would say don't get anything based on Play. I've had problems with it for a long time. Play 4 still gives me issues, whereas Kontakt doesn't. I love their samples but hate their software. So personally, I'd get something else. I own Goliath, SO Platinum, and Choirs and I would trade them in, despite their great sound, for other sample sets if I could.

Play and Sonar?

For the most part they play nicely ,,don't try to get help from their tech support, just Google around and read for yourself the issues , you might have more help from the forums there..

the latest Play engine works well with Sonar 3 even with 2

NOW I have major issues with the Gold SO Ork and missing samples , EW is NO help, reloading libraries is no help, just read the forums on complaints judge for yourself

That is my general take. Not stability but audio issues rather. Play has had problems with pops and dropouts for as long as I've had it. They always have something new to blame it on. Initially it was that fast bounces "couldn't work" with Play's oh so advanced engine. Then it was that HDDs were too slow (despite SO harkening back to the days before SSDs and having no issues on them with Kontakt), then it was Sonar's fault with Play 3. Now with Play 4 the new engine was supposed to fix it, but there are pops n' such. Different than before, but still there. This is with a single track, samples streaming off a dedicated SSD, with another SSD for the OS and DAW, a setup that Kontakt has no issues with.

So that is my thing. Now do note, not everyone shares my experience. However it is what I've contested with so I let people know.

Their sound is great though.
