Not a problem, and I bought Komplete 9 recently just for that reason. I was tired of all the problems I was having with Play and so decided to try something else. Also, I still have a license for Colossus, which is Goliaths predecessor, and I can use that in Kontakt which is nice. In general the collection has some very nice instruments, not as good as what you get from East-West in some cases, but still good. For me, not having to mess around all the time making sure that there's no popster clicks in my export is quite worth it.
Basically with Play I would only recommend it to someone that already has a decent collection of samples and want something else to try. It may well be the you'd have no problems, but it certainly isn't the kind of thing you would want to get as your first major sample set because you very well might. Maybe someday East-West will get around to fixing Play and making it truly work well, but not so far.
Also there's the issue that it doesn't support really any editing of any kind. All the NI stuff supports heavy editing of instruments including sample mapping. Play only allows you to very basic controls, there's no ability to dig deeper if you need to. They've been promising Play Pro for years and years now, but there's been no movement on it. So as it stands there's no editing, and no certainty if we will ever be able to.

I use Play all the time in X2.  I can load the entire SO Gold at once with all the master keyswitch files with no problems.

I've got loads of EWQL stuff and while it's quite wonderful and the play engine (3) works fine, the load times are horrendous...especially for their platinum products... I can make a cup of coffee waiting for songs to load using pianos and orchestral patches...

but their stuff is beautiful sounding...

my favorite is their "spaces" reverb.  It's better than anything I've ever used, and I must have a dozen of the "go to" verbs... never use um... in love with "spaces"

I'm not really sure what causes Plays issues. It isn't the sort of thing that happens for all people. However, it is definitely a problem that isn't just on my system if you look at their support forum you see a number of people have had problems with pops and clicks. The annoying thing is that there seems to be no way to solve it just by throwing hardware at it. In Play 3 it happened even when you had sample streaming from RAM. It was also consistent in where the clicks and pops happened in a given piece. With Play 4 it seems to be something that for me only happens when streaming from disk. However this shouldn't happen at all given that it is streaming from a dedicated SSD.

I wish I could trace what exactly is the problem, so I could tell them how to fix it. However it seems to be something that just occurs on some systems and not others. As such I tend to recommend against their products. Kontakt is rocksteady and has been for a long time. Even back in the Kompakt days, it worked well.

Maybe someday they'll either fix Play, or realize that it was a mistake and go back to something else. However I kind of doubt it.

I don't own any VSL stuff.  read a LOT thought and everything I have read said VSL is powerful, excellent sample sounds and that the VSL engine is very powerful and works really well.  the drawback.....VERY expensive for a full orchestra.  Requires usb stick, not iLok and not Steinberg so there is that too.

I do not enjoy using my EWSO Platinum.  I don't like the Play engine.  If I could get a do over I would have bought VSL.

No not really. It does have a few plate reverbs and digital things like that, though it doesn't say what they are. However mostly it is about real spaces. It doesn't actually have all that many different spaces, more what it has is really good spaces. It's the kind of thing to get if you're looking for real concert halls to use and you want really good impulses. In terms of impulses of classic algo verbs, look somewhere else.
Also it is completely un-expandable. It will only read impulses in its own custom format, it doesn't allow you to load you're own. It's interface also has very minimal controls. Basically, it is a unit if you want real spaces that all sound good and you don't want to mess around with. You find a preset you like, and use it.

If you have an iLok the give you a free 10 day demo that you can download. That's how I tried it, and decided it was what I want, despite my severe misgivings about east-west.
