Well at least now I know there is a name for this shiitake rash. It's called "flagellate dermatitis" or "shiitake dermatitis" and is caused by a reaction to lentinan found in the aforementioned shrooms when they're uncooked. I'm so down about the fact I cannot eat these anymore because apart from lending a lovely smoky taste to my signature salad, they're supposed to be extremely healthy. The second worst part of it is that I daren't go to the gym because they'd probably chase me out of the locker room with a broom.

I thought you needed to put your, er, unit, into a toaster to get flagellate dermatitis, no?

...

I'm really wondering how much of that reaction, or rash, is due to the chemicals that are sprayed in the food on the way to your house. I never saw, once, an indian in Brazil, or anyone else, have any issues with mushrooms, and in there they are much bigger, better ... and more far out!

I still believe it's all the chemicals and sheep-dip that is added to the food in America, that is the problem. If you add up all those chemicals there are at least 3 or 4 that both you, I and anyone else here, would have issues with at our age!

Craig is exempt though, I want to add (for fun!). He personally tested lsd-25 and knows there are no bad chemicals in it. Same here, btw! And it was a smooth trip, no speed, no reactions, nothing ... and no after effects other than your mind remembering details through out in piece-meal fashion!

BTW, did you know that your pineal gland secrets stuff that is almost exactly like the lsd-25, but obviously organic to your body? You can take the trip without the mushrooms!

Are they going to chase you out of the locker room because of the rash, or is there something you're not telling us?

I'm glad they were able to identify the dermatitis.  Maybe you can find a different mushroom you can use in your salad.

Nope, not due to chemicals, it's due to a natural substance found in uncooked shiitake's and the rash has been recognized in Asia too. The substance is only found in shiitakes, other mushrooms aren't infected. The reason you've never heard of it is likely to be that it's a relatively rare allergy.

Plain old button mushrooms. You just can't go wrong with them!

Well, in reality, I'm not a big fan of non-organic chemicals and, during my PhD work, I'm aware of all the things most people don't know that your body can do.  I also have a few experimental medical devices that can be used to take not only non-chemical, but good for you "trips."
